Is it safe? Should my friends...?!


Question: Okay well I am 13, weigh 85 pounds, and my height is 5'5". I dont want to each much at lunch because I mean, i dont want to get fat! So when I skip most of my meal my friends threaten to tell the counselour. Its my life though not theirs! Do you think its safe what i am doing and are my friends right?? What should I do about it??

Here's the deal: You're underweight, but you're still growing. Don't sweat your weight. Listen to your body. Eat when you're hungry. If lunch rolls around and you're not hungry, then don't eat or just snack on something. However, you should not skip meals just because you don't want to get fat. The key is to learn how to know when you're hungry. If your stomach is grumbling and you get a "hollow" feeling in your gut, you're hungry. If you eat only when you're hungry and don't stuff yourself (stop BEFORE you start feeling full) you'll be slim and trim for life. Just make sure to eat a well-balanced diet.

P.S.: Your friends are just concerned about you. They don't want you to become anorexic. So instead of telling them to mind their own business, simply assure them that you are eating healthy but don't always feel like eating a big lunch.

you are quite small for you height. you shouldn't be worying about gaining weight, especially not now in your life. Eat, it could kill you if you don't, and you friends have the right to be worried about you, thats what they do.

85 pounds is very light already for your height and and age. You should eat your lunch, it gives you the energy you need.

You should probably be eating more anyways because you're growing at that stage.

You shouldn't get fat by eating your lunch... if you're concerned about that, just watch what you pack for lunch... just don't have any junk food. A nice sandwich and juice and a fruit will do.

If you're fit or athletic, going for jogs couple times a week will keep you healthy

No you need to eat because if you dont ypu will start to feel light headed and will get a headache.Plus you dont need to worry about getting fat you only weigh 85 pounds at 13.Im 13 and I weigh about 100 pounds and people in my class weigh more than me and their skinny.

you should eat your damn lunch because 85lbs is dangerously thin, put on 25 lbs.

also your 13 who gives a crap. if you want to be in good shape eat healthy and take up martial arts or a sport of some kind

You are very light for your height. You should gain some weight, if for nothing else to if you are to light or thin your ability to fight off illness diminishes.

your friends are right. you wont get fat by eating the regular amount of meals per day. and the reason people get fat is becuase they eat food that isnt good for them and they do not exercise. you wont get fat if you exercise and eat healthy. one piece of fruit or vegetable a day will help you stay slim. also you could be setting yourself up for worse eating disorders later in life.

You are definitely underweight. You need to see a counselor to talk about your negative self image of your body. Not eating for fear of gaining weight can be dangerous to your health.

No, I don't think it's safe for you to totally skip lunch. Eat the vegetables - if there are any - and leave the pizza or potato chips on the plate.

If you feel you need to skip a meal, try dinner/supper. Or better yet, ask Mom for a salad for dinner.

I think that you should not skip meals; instead, have your parents take you to see a nutritionist and physician. They can help you determine what the best body weight and calorie intake is for you. They can help you choose the right foods to eat vs. skipping meals altogether. When you skip meals your body just adjusts to the new lower calorie intake and learns to live on less food. Sometimes when this happens to people they start eating even less; but their body just adjusts again or thinks that it's starving and starts to store every little bit of food that they do eat as fat to prevent further starvation.

So without judging you... please talk to professionals to find out the best weight goals and nutrition methods for you.

FYI: Yes, it's your body... but, I think your friends are just showing you that they care about you in the only way that they know how.

eat! dont worry..... at ur age u can burn sugar and food very fast... you need to eat it is unhealth. by not eating you r starving your body witch in long run could lead to organ failure, low blood sugar, growth/hight stun, and bone density./

to be skin you dont have 2 starve. just eat good foods and do a sport, jog, dance any thing 2 get heart rate up and u will lose weight of if u ate burn of the food from that day.

PS- guys dont like twigs and girls who care alot about the way they look(makes drama). also girls with curves are more liked buy men and the girls the guy think the can trust and end up in a good relationship with.

i think you are disgustingly skinny and need to gain weight. you should be at least 120 pounds.. but i highly doubt you are 85 pounds. stop trying to get attention
