Is the gout related to obesity? Then probably just less food would do the trick.

I've always been 20-30 pounds overweight and did a few things to get a better look. Here are some:

Do about a month's worth of distilled water in place of regular water. You can buy it in the grocery store.

Consider cutting out caffeine. It adds stress to you, which can cause belly fat.

Do simple pushups and stomach crunches. Do three sets of each all in one session to the max.

Switch all foods with grains to whole grains. Spend the extra buck or two on better breads, cereals and pastas.

I found that heavy weight lifting and cardio did not help much at all. I'm not sure why. I think my weight is my weight, no matter what. But the healthier eating and some of the things above did reduce my waist size a lot. I had to cut new holes in my belt.

The fastest way to lose weight is to do cardio. This could be using an elliptical machine, running, speed walking, bike, etc. A typical women requires 1800 calories for maintenance and a man requires 2100 calories. To lose 1 lb of fat you need 3500 less calories than maintenance.

So... if you want to lose 1 lb in 1 week you need to eat 500 calories less a day (1300 calories total) or work to burn that much each day.
