Is there any point in drinking Innocent smoothies?!

Question: Or have all the Vitamin C and antioxidants been killed off by pasteurisation?

I don't think there's any water in them? Aren't they just crushed fruit?
They say: We use 100% pure and fresh fruit in all of our smoothies. Nothing else. No sugar. No water. No concentrates.

Apparently they're lower GI than lots of other similar drinks:

This is all info from them, so I tried to find something more independent. This is the best I could come up with: the nutritional editor at Men's Health said this on their discussion board:

I'll just add my two pence worth...

Plus points:

- Good way of getting fruit inside you (great source of vitamins, antioxidants etc, which are good for immunity, helping to prevent cancer and heart disease etc)
- Save you the hassle of juicing stuff yourself
- Innocent use good quality ingredients and avoid nasty additives
- They taste great!

Minus points:
- Although it's just crushed fruit so all the fibre's in there, you don't get as much benefit as if you'd eaten the whole fruit (though it's better than just drinking fruit juice).
- They're high in sugar (even though this is natural fruit sugar, it's still sugar)
- Because of the sugar, and that fact that they slip down so easily, the calories can easily add up without you noticing it. Check the calories in one of those little bottles, and you'll see that you could eat an awful lot of apples for that (apples = about 50 calories each). And because of the fibre, eating 'whole' fruit is much more sustaining.

The bottom line? These smoothies taste great and they're nutritious, and a good way of getting fruit down your neck with minimum hassle. But don't go overboard, and try to get most of your 5-a-day fruit and veg portions in 'real fruit'.

Hope that helps!

No, it is just a marketing con I think, drink fresh orange juice. innocent smoothies are very expensive any way. Most of it is just water...

make your own.dose not take long.taste much better and you can cut out all the bad sugar thats in innocent smoothies.

I think they come second to eating fruit but if you don't fit fruit into your diet regularly, then they are an excellent way of getting some fibre and vitamins as they are made from whole fruits.

Vitamins etc are mostly gone within an hour or two of breaking into a fruit.
However, Innocent Smoothies are the best I have come across. They are expensive in some respects, but are no mess and much better than juice from concentrate.

You can never beat home grown, organic, freshly prepared etc, but how can any smoothy maker put that in a box better than the boys at Innocent?
