Am i doing the right thing to loose body fat?!

Question: Hi,

I am 16 years old, about 5 feet 8.5 inches and i weigh about 145 pounds. I am trying to loose body fat in order to get more definition in my abs. I have cut back around 500 calories from what the online calculators tell me what or how many caloires i burn/day. I am around 14% body fat and i am trying to cut down to 7%. I stopped lifting weights and i only do cardio now, (swim 3 times/week and run 1/week). I dont drink soda, only water and take in very little sodium.

is what im doing going to work or should i change my new diet?

thank you

In order to see your abs, you need muscle there first. You can be single digits bodyfat, but unless you have muscle there, you won't see the road bumps. Keep up the cardio and weight train including you abs. Of course you won't see results too unless you have your diet in check.

Old saying is, Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. But you still need muscle there too.

Also, sodium is not to bad for you, it will come out in your sweat. make sure you aren't starving your body wither by dropping your cals too low.

Add back the strenght training or elese you wont loose fat. Otherwise your fine,

you should do weights still that boosts your metabolism

Probably, but you should do strength training b/c the more muscle you have the more calories you burn all day long. Just be sure you consum at least 1200 cals a day or your metabolism will go into starvation mode and you won't lose weight.

your on the right track.
keep it up. if your eating around 1500 calories a day you'll lose weight.

That's A really good Idea!

I usually here stupid plans that involve just eating healthy
or just Exercising but doing both is the best for sure
Keep up the good work

I think your deit sounds good. Here's a site that helps with the kind of deit your doing.
http://www.mypyramid.gov/

i thought you have to gain muscleto see ur abs and to gain muscle u have to gain weight... I want abs too and i have been trying everything.. only to end up defeated... i am still trying thou don give up

trust me...your body will take some time to adjust to your new diet. but if you stick with it you'll start to see results. they just wont happen overnight, they never do. Good luck!

i think that's a good start. keep up the good work!

Your doing great. I would bring back the weight training though. Weight training will help you lose weight. Most people think that if you lift weight you going to get all big and musclely but, that is not true. Bodybuilders are only like that because they eat like 4000 calories a day. Weightlifting with your diet would help you burn fat.
