What is the best way to be able to do alot of pull-ups?!


Question: I was hoping to be a marine some day(though it may be a few years) and I heard that you had to be able to do pull ups, sit ups(np) and run about a mile or two in a certain time(np). The only part that is hard for me is the pull up part. I'm also a big guy so i know that it has alot to do with my weight. I was just wondering what I could do muscle wize to help. Oh yea, I can do about one pull up at the moment. :(

get some place in your house you can do pullups.

make it the "fee" to enter a room ie, everytime you go into the basement you have to do one pullup. everytime you go to the bathroom do one pullup.

in 2 weeks, dont do any pullups for 2 days then test and see how many you can do.

slowly lower yourself from a pullup in say 6 seconds, these are called negatives

You should first work on losing some of that excess weight. Eating healthy and exercise daily. Just keep in mind your goal, pull ups are a matter of upper body strength. My partner can do so many, and he has an awsome upper body. So as you begin to lose weight, start working on your upper body strength. Weight push up's stuff like that and start doing pull ups everyday. Good luck!

You are a big guy, as in you have a lot of fat, or muscle? If you have a lot of fat, you should try to cut down on that. if you have a lot of muscle, you shouldn't really have problems doing pullups so I guess it is fat. You should maybe try to do some triceps exercises (you can find a lot on a site like bodybuilding.com) or I remember a author (I think he was Pavel Tsoutsaline) saying that you get lot of exercises which make you do more pullups. How about doing more pullups instead? He suggesting putting a pullup bar at some place and whenever you visit that place, to do a few pullups. Apart from that, I personally have experienced that warming up of your muscles by doing a few simple exercises allows me to do more pullups than if I just started with pullups.
