Spiritual fast?!

Question: I plan to do a fast for a week drinking just water.
I know it will be hard, but I am willing to do this.
I was talking to my father about me getting a breast reduction and he told me to fast and I should go down about 2 cup sizes.
He also meantioned that I should do the fast to become closer with God because I have been drifting away lately.

What do you think? Should I do it? Have you done a spiritual fast? How did you feel afterwards? How did you start eating again?

I am 14 years old, female, 5'3", 135lbs.

1) I would post this in religion and spirituality.

Many people fast to recognize how lucky they are....that they can chose to go without food, to feel compassion for those who do not have that option, and to develop a slightly different relationship with ones body....that entire angle of want vs. need.

I highly doubt that a weeks fast would cause you to loose that much weight, especially not that much in the breast region.

As far as the how to fast....many people do it from sun up to sun down....or from sundown to sundown the next day....

Usually if a fast is for many days, people will eat light foods (a bowl of soup, a roll) or juices (vegetable, fruit, etc)

In all religions that I know of, children are encouraged to not fast until they are adults.....you count as a child for a couple more years.

your dad is a nut job and I'm sorry for you because of that

a breast reduction? why is that necessary? why would you remove something god gave you? you are fine just the way you are as long as you are always dressed modestly not exposing too much of your body parts tempting the guys. I've done fasting for 2 days and its not drinking or eating anything. It helps a lot. But i think a week of no eating is too much...

Your body will need more then just water. Most of the people I know that have done a spiritual fast drank juices(vegetable and fruit). Your body needs basic nutrients. I don't know if it will bring closer to God. With many people it does. But, they also pray meditate and do spiritual reading.

Then when you begin eating again, you need to take it slow
eating things that are light and easy on stomach (oatmeal, grilled chicken, rice).

i have only ever done half day fasts, or day fasts where i can eat fruit. it is really hard, and i dont think it is possible if you are not devoted to God and doing it for him. i dont mean any disrespect for your father, but u are a little young in my opinion to be fasting for a whole week. if i were you i would fast for a day, to get closer to God, and when you are hungry prey or read scriptures.
try excercise to reduce breasts if you work your pecks your breasts will decrease in size slowly, but safely, and ab workout will help strenghten back. avoid surgery if you can, God gave you your body, and i'm sure you are beautiful.

good luck

Fasting isn't good for the body. Your body goes into shock and stores adipose tissue... or in other words fat. Doing it for a week won't help you lose much weight, but you will feel terrible.

If you want to lose weight, plan a steady course of the right foods with less portion sizes and a little exercise. It will take more time but you will be happy!

Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper.

As far as God goes... The best way to get close to God is by immersing yourself in scripture. If you don't know much about God then I wouldn't fast to find out. Figure out who Christ is, what he came for, and what he accomplished. Learn to live what he taught, and you will come close with God.

Best way to do that? Read what he had to say. Best books for that are Matthew Mark Luke and John in the New Testament.

Christ doesn't ask anybody to fast, but he never condemned it either. Which means that if you truly need to fast, you'll know why and when. But you don't need to do it when you're unsure.

I can give you more info if you want it.

To fast for losing weight, WRONG!!
For spiritual fasting, there are a couple different ways to do so. Regarding food intake, you could do a partial fast-where you eat lightly a couple of meals during the day/evening. Like have breakfast and dinner, but no lunch, no snacks.
If you have not done a food fast before, you should not do it for a week. Maybe one to three days at the most.
And, as one person mentioned, you aren't quite yet an "adult".
Another fast, where you eat no food (for one to three days), you yes, drink water (at about 8-10 8 oz glasses of water per day) plus fruit juices. To help keep your blood sugar level as even as possible. Or, eat soups, drink juices, etc.
The baseline weight for females--adult-- (your close enough for this part) at 5'--baseline weight --100 lbs. For every inch over 5'----add five lbs per inch. Plus, are you small boned, med. or large bone frame? Please, check with your Dr. before doing any of this fasting thing.
Also, yes, fasting is a way to get spiritually closer to God, but so is the reading of the Bible, daily, and prayer, daily.
Also, for losing weight, again, please speak with your Dr. about this. You might be a few lbs over-but you are still in the process of growing taller, etc. At your age, you should not be so concerned about your weight.
As for your questions : I think you should wait on this fasting thing until you have talked with your Dr. about your age, weight, etc. Yes, I have done spiritual fasting, for three days. Once a week long (too long). I have done the partial fast, the water only, with some fruit juice fast. Afterwards-yes, I felt closer to God, I saw a change in myself that way, for the good. However, it is something that God usually lays on your heart to do--and not to lose weight. How to start eating again? I started with a bowl of soup, and some dry toast. It tasted so good!
Believe me, you need to really do some thinking and praying about this. A week with only water---at your age-------I don't think is too good of an idea. Especially when you want to do it for weight loss, a surgery, and your Dad telling you to do it.
I wish you the best. Take care.

You sound like a decent weight, so fasting won't necessarily make your breast size go down, as breast IS NOT all fat, its also dense breast tissue.

I feel bad for you, as you will have to live with your breasts until you are old enough to get your own insurance and THEN talk to a doctor about a breast reduction.

If you have back pain it will greatly benefit you.

I am VERY concerned that your father wants to basically STARVE you!!! Just drinking water IS NOT HEALTHY!
