Is it ovious when eggs go bad?!

Question: We have some eggs that say "sell by Feb. 22nd" and it's now March 15th. They look, smell, and taste fine. Are they still good?

I use eggs past the sell by date all the time. Crack it into a separate bowl or cup first and sniff it and look at it. You should be able to tell if it is bad.

I guess it's ok, since you're still alive. =] Odd question though.

I don't know

yeah..it's only when they start to smelll

Eggs really stink bad when they are bad. You really cannot depend on the expiration date on the side of the carton. The food and drug administration makes the egg producers put an expiration date which is not always reliable.
I remember cracking a boiled egg about 10 yrs ago. It was rotten and ruined a gallon of potato salad I was making. It stunk terribly even after cooked. The expiration date wasnt for another 2 weeks.

Open one up.. They're probably fine. Sell by and use by are different..

Heck, in many parts of the world, they don't even refrigerate the eggs..

P.S. If you want to see something foul, click the link below.. I guess 'freshness' is relative.
