I have a breakfast question?!

Question: Is it bad to eat a pop tart every morning for breakfast? I only eat 1 and after that I never eat them again throughout the day. When I eat a pop tart I always have it with a piece of fruit and some water. So, what do you think?

Pop tarts are sugary, and filled with the worst kind of carbohydrates - refined, processed sugar. It's the equivalent of drinking a soda or two for breakfast.

You would be much better off having something with fiber and protein in the morning - something that breaks down slower and will keep your blood sugars more level.

Having fruit with a pop tart does not mitigate the sugar. Fruits are high in sugar as well - although it's a better kind of sugar than processed sugar - but the two in combination are just TOO much sugar for one meal. You would be better off having a hard boiled egg with your pop tart which is all protein and fat for about the same calories as the fruit.

Some examples of better breakfasts would be:

whole wheat toast with sugar free jam (to get that sweet craving), strawberries, an egg (fiber, fruit, protein/fat

Whole-grain cereal with strawberries and low-fat milk (fiber, fruit, protein)

Oatmeal with milk and bananas (ditto)

Peanut butter toast with banana - yum!

Depends on your level of activity. Do you excersize? Pop tarts have almost 200 calories EACH!! Tons of sugar. Cereal is actually better for you. But if you get a lot of excersize, and eat fruits and veggies too, I think you are all right

not bad at all as long as you're also making sure to eat fruits too!

eh..its okay I guess but u proably shouldn't eat it everyday just try to eat other healthy things lyk some cereals. But it is good that you are having it with water (not a sugary drink) and fruit!

:)

There are probably better things to eat but if you eat a piece of fruit with it and you are having water then that is good. There are definitely worse things you could be eating for breakfast.

Women need to get around 25 g of Fiber in their daily diet and Men need around 30 g and the most important meal of the day is breakfast so try to incorporate some fiber in there somehow. Kashi bars have quite a bit and if I'm not mistake, TLC bar's have quite a bit too and they are pretty tasty :)

you will be fine as long as you burn it off. the fruit should equalize it out and keep you running good for the morning

It depends on what else you eat, and when.
I think the pop tart will be high in sugar, so might make you crave something sooner than a good, high fibre breakfast would.
Porridge oats with a little something to liven up the taste is the least processed option.
I don't think your pop tart habit is likely to be fatal, but you need to look at your overall eating in order to be satisfied that you are treating your body correctly.

I'm of two minds on this one... hear me out....

* If you indulge your sugar cravings early in the day, it's far better than eating them before you go to bed --- you have all day to burn it all off and if you give into your cravings you feel less deprived, therefore are more successful with your diet and better nutrition the rest of the day.

However....

* Since your body hasn't eaten in 8-12 hrs. overnight - but escalating your bloodsugar that quickly in the a.m., sets you uip for a quick crashing mid-morning .... which could entice you to eat even junkier food the rest of the day.

Soooo......

Everything in moderation. I am a big advocate for starting off the day right with a good, full breakfast - oatmeal and yogurt or cereal, fruit, juice, eggs, etc. However, I DO always give into my sugary breakfast cravings like pastries or whatever - it just goes great with my a.m. coffee.....it helps to keep me feeling less deprived when I am trying to be good the rest of the time.

The key is incorporating a variety of good, wholesome foods the rest of the time - and if you are only eating one a day and being good the rest of the time, it's okay.

But see if you can wean yourself off of them.... start with only every OTHER day.... and then only a couple a week and see if you can do this.

If 'sweet' is what you are craving in the morning.... a healthy banana/orange/berry smoothie or non-fat fruity yogurt or some cinnamon on some whole grain cereal is a far better choice and a healthier one to boot.

I think it's fine, I wouldn't worry about it fruit & water is great with that and you're only having one if you were having 5+ then It would be diferent. I say enjoy it plain & simple!

i dont think thers anyhing rong with it, as long as your haveing breakfast then its fine!

Thats a cool idea, I love pop tarts but i don't think its sufficient but if you're having it with water and fruit whats the harm?
Sometimes i just have some juice and walk out the door so... you've got a better breakfast eating habit than me =D
