Survey for college students: food at college? (i have a paper due!)?!

Question: I'm working on a presentation about obesity in universities.
If you can, please answer these questions about your university:
What kind of food do vending machines in your college have?
Are there any healthy choices in the machines available, and do they have 'indicators' to tell you they are healthy?

Is there is any healthy food in your cafeteria?
What kinds? Do you wish there were other foods available?

Is there is nutrition info or exercise programs readily available? Do they advertise these programs?

also, do you feel like you've gained weight since starting college?
is it because of stress, depression, or just unhealthy eating?

Anything else you think about obesity in your school? Do you wish there were labels available for cafeteria food?

Thanks guys and girls!!!!!!!

Please answer as many questions as possible, it will really help!

In the Dining hall the healthy food is somewhat disappointing. Other than salad, sandwiches, and occasional healthy special, everything is loaded with a ton of fat and grease. Not only that but only being able to eat 3 meals a day is a real problem when most diet plans call for 6 small meals a day. Yes there are places to buy food through the school that are open all day, but their choices aren't much better. You really have to just realize whats the healthiest option and eat it. Not much variety in it, its really annoying. I wish there were more healthy options but healthier foods i guess cost more and thats what it all comes down to.

Considering we have somewhere around 15,000 students our main gym is really quite sad. We have excellent athletic programs (D1 school), yet have a crappy gym with a few small under-equipped satellite gyms. In terms of help with exercises at explanation its pretty readily available. I never really used any of the services though as I have several friends who are very into fitness. The programs and any sort of advertisement are really not advertised anywhere except the gym I would say. No nutrition info on any of the food either

I lost weight when I first came to college due to more portion control, but due to these positive results i let myself go and started eating unhealthier and unhealthier and started gaining weight, then after I noticed that, I threw myself into fitness, working out 5-6 days a week, reading up on it as much as possible and have since lost even more weight than before and put on a good amount of muscle.

My school is a very outdoor school, on warmer days you can always find people playing sports and whatnot, lot of walking, so overall I would say we are a healthy school. The food in the dining halls says otherwise though. Def wish that nurtrition was posted on the items being served, but i feel like more people would complain then, I'm sure everything has an insane amount of fat.

yes

Vending machines - no healthy options, chips, candy, the usual

Cafeteria - awesome selection of food, healthy and otherwise, wraps, pizza, salad bar, burgers, daily specials

Yes, I've gained weight. I think stress and unhealthy eating have played a small role, but I think that change in metabolism has played the largest role.

I do wish that nutritional information was labeled for food in vending machines (so that you could see it before you buy) and by the menu at the stations in the cafeteria.

My school has a program call better bites. In vending machines they mark these items with a sticker that are considered healthier. My cafeteria has some choices like boca burgers which is great but they do not have them every day and so I am left with eating the other meals which are out ragously high in fat. We have a really good recreation center but I think we would benifet from having someone there to teach us about the equipment. I wish there was a like points program or something that told me when and what I needed to eat.

What kind of food do vending machines in your college have? Sodas, juices, one bottle of water. There are lots of chip packets, chocolates, candies, granola bars, giant cookies, mini muffins...

Are there any healthy choices in the machines available, and do they have 'indicators' to tell you they are healthy? Never have I seen such a thing other than water. I don't trust granola, the advertising is a lie, they are the same as candy bars.

Is there is any healthy food in your cafeteria? Well, they TRIED to be healthy, and they now have fruit, fruit salads, I saw greek salad the other day, and they have sushi. The rest is grease- pastries, hash browns, pies, butter chicken, fatty pastas, frozen pizzas.
What kinds? Do you wish there were other foods available? As mentioned above, and yes, I wish there was more and better sushi. I wish they had juice machines for healthy 100% fruit/veggie smoothies, I wish everything was the low fat, light, no artificial, no sugar version. I wish they had green salad possibly with tuna, better fruit... And all cheaper!

Is there is nutrition info or exercise programs readily available? Do they advertise these programs? Nope. Nothing.

also, do you feel like you've gained weight since starting college? Yeah, quite a bit, especially since I have moved out, I havent been eating decent home cooked meals.

is it because of stress, depression, or just unhealthy eating? Unhealthy eating for me, the stress was the same, possibly worse at home, and now that Im on my own, I just eat whatever my hands find.

Anything else you think about obesity in your school? Do you wish there were labels available for cafeteria food? I wish the nutritional content was clearly labelled and the bad foods were more expensive than the good foods. That way, we wouldnt be getting so fat.
