How can I stop sabotaging myself with my weight?!

Question: I am overweight. I've been overweight my entire life. However, at 19 years old, I'm currently at my heaviest, 5'5 and 175 pounds. I have every door open to me. My parents have no problem paying any amount of money to pay for gym memberships, health programs, weight loss camp, personal trainers, etc. And I cannot tell you how much I have appreciated their help. But every single time i start a weight loss program, I suddenly stop exercising and just begin to eat and eat. Usually, i cannot last more than 2 or 3 weeks. I just don't understand how i have had all these opportunities and still continue to allow myself to gain weight. I just keep thinking of more and more excuses to not lose weight. Is there anyone who can help me understand why I continue to sabotage myself? Any advice is appreciated.

i am about your height and weight. 5 years ago i lost 35 lbs in 4 mos and reached my goal weight (on weight watchers). i had some health issues and now i've gained it back. but i can tell you why i succeeded before. i could not have done it until i decided that i was worth it. it has to start with you deciding that you are worth it. you are worth more than any high calorie snack. worth more than any food can tempt you. escaping to the food does not satisfy you on the inside. believe me, i know. set yourself a goal, and keep your eye on that goal. you will have good days... and bad days. don't worry about those bad days because every day is a new start. i was proud of every small step and every pound i lost. and in the end i was VERY PROUD of reaching my goal. you can do it too. i wish you the best on your journey.

you need more will-power!!! maybe you should go to boot camp!!

I've had that problem in the past and sometimes continue to have it. It just comes to a point where you're sick of your own excuses and you will want to stick with it no matter what.

I've been making excuses for about two months that I was too busy with school and activities to work out, and I started again over spring break and now I'm hooked again.

It's just self-discipline. Even if you don't want to work out, you have to make yourself do it. Odds are, you'll end up enjoying it and being really glad you did. You just have to get out there and do it, but that's not going to happen until you need it to happen - for you, not for anyone else. And the same thing goes for eating - it's a conscious decision. It's not just going to happen that you'll just stop eating bad things. You have to have that urge come into your mind and then take control of it and either resist the urge to eat, or eat something healthy - but only in moderation! Health food is good for you as long as you don't binge on it.

Just make yourself stick with it. That's the only way out of this.

"The Reason People Can't Lose Weight, and get to their healthy body weight, has nothing to do with will-power, exercising, or the right diet! ... The reason we are overweight and unhealthy is because there are disgusting Plaque and Horrible Little 'CRITTERS' Living in Your Guts!" "Shed 10, 25, 50, even 100 lbs or more - and Keep It Off FOREVER!" by getting rid of these harmful parasites living in your stomach, intestines, and colon.

I know exactly how you feel. Do watch TLC? There's this guy on there Sunday nights, and he really makes sense to me.
He basically says-eat whatever you want, just only eat when you're HUNGRY and chew each bite 20 times. In between bites put your silverwear down and don't eat with any distractions. Stop AS Soon as you are full, and eat as soon as you are hungry again.
I guess a bunch of people have lost weight with this because you're just letting your body do what it does naturally.
The show is called "I Can Make You Thin". I'm going to try it!

you just need to stop putting yourself down. when you stop excersizing and suddenly start binging, it's probably because you're discouraged and feel bad about yourself. you need to stay positive and encourage yourself instead of hating yourself. it helps to have a plan because if you stick to the plan, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment and your self esteem will go up, and you'll be more willing to continue.

I think you are obviously self conscious about this. You know you want to lose the weight, but maybe you are afraid what will happen if you fail?? or if people don't respond the way you expect? Its all a mental game for you. if you can i suggest looking into some hypnosis. u can by books and tapes at the store so u can hypnotize yourself... this may sound crazy but it helps you gain control over your subconscious mind. you need to assure yourself and fill your head with positive thoughts. You can do this! just set your mind to it and give it 100%. you'll be happy you did!

Don't listen techsome. We're on the same boat and I more overweight than you are. I am 5'2 and weigh 175 pounds. But I do have one useful tip, and if you figure out anything else, please let me know.

Tip: Whenever I want to eat unnecessary foods or sugary/fatty foods, I just tell myself, "it's one moment of discomfort and I can get through it" JUST ONE MOMENT. I acutally think that to myself almost everyday, not just for dieting, but for things that I don't want to do or when I get needles to do blood test. IT'S JUST ONE MOMENT OF DISCOMFORT.

Another thing that's helping me out is watching "Nutrition by Natalie" videos. (Psychetruth) on Youtube. Whenever I want to eat something, I just rewatch the ones talking about fast food.

I always ask myself how did I do in terms of eating weekly.

Let me know if you find anothing else.

is it possible that you are an emotional eater? you get upset, then start eating.. if so, you need to go get some therapy to find another outlet for this. or maybe take up a sport you like. if i were you, i would get a gym buddy. a friend who likes to work out, and who will motivate and make you go. and ask your parents to try to buy healthier things, or at least to hide the bad things from you like cake and such. you might just not like working out, so maybe take up a sport, or try out different programs like kickboxing or something fun. maybe that will keep you motivated. maybe take a hip hop dance class. i myself hate hip hop, but the class was so fun!

Set goals. Goals can start small if you're aiming too high you might get discouraged faster realizing they dont happen overnight or after a week. It is about willpower and guilt. If you feel guilty about over eating or indulging or not doing enough exercise you'll want to find a way to make up for it. The best thing that happened to me was I had a friend who wanted to lose weight too so we would go to the gym together as partners/spotters although it turned into a competition. I only saw him going into the gym and walking out. Encouragement is good working out together, or doing the treadmill but in my situation the taunting was what made me want to try harder.
If you could go to a fat camp I'd say do it, they make losing weight fun. If you're the type who likes to eat make sure you do more excercise.

Do you want to lose weight? I think you should believe in losing weight, and think about what can happen to your whole self-esteem. When improving yourself, your whole self-esteem will change and the outlook for life will soon follow........... good luck in being motivated for life.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The best thing I can think of is get someone to exercise with you. It makes it more enjoyable, and also gives you motivation to keep going.

You have to want to lose weight for yourself; not for anyone else. You have to believe that you can actually do it. If you dont believe in yourself you will not succeed. Will power has a lot to do with dieting.

Good Luck!

I have been overweight for such a long period in my life, I had to do something. It's been years now and I have finally kept the weight off to live an average weight life. I have found whenever you are trying to lose weight, you should concentrate on these three things which all work together in providing a healthier and quicker weight loss goal for yourself. I have found this combination really successful in my weight loss plans. The first thing is exercising and how much you can put forth into it. The more you exercise, the more results you will see. The next thing is dieting and the calorie intake. If you exercise more, technically you could eat more? Always watch what you eat.

Now the last step in a good weight loss plan is always a good diet pill that can help you get to the end of the road. I have found Proactol which is a natural herbal diet pill to be the best around. It's an appetite suppressant along with being a fat blocker which stops up to 28% of fat you eat. Read up about it at Theweightlossplace .com where I saved money on it. Proactol really works well with exercising which gives you plenty of energy to perform. Along with that you diet will be affected by Proactol due to the appetite suppressant and fat blocker. If you slip up on meals, the fat blocker kicks in. It's really great to stop food cravings.

Concentrate on those three things and the combination is deadly for the fat cells in your body. Good luck and I hope this helps.
