Treadmill: Uphill grade v. time??!

Question: When running on a treadmill, is it more effective to work at a higher uphill grade or for a longer amount of time?

For example, running level for an hour or running 2.0 grade for 30-45 minutes or so.

I try to do a combination of both, but I was just curious.

I would put both together...mix then together .... do uphill for awhile then continue with time...Going uphill should have more of an effect though..builds caf muscle faster

Depends on what you mean by effective....To lose weight, try interval training: run as hard as you can (no incline) for 1 minute, then walk to let your heart rate recover for two minute--do this for a full 30 minutes.

To build muscles and endurance, ramp up the incline.
