Ate too much :/?!

Question: hey guys,
well, i'm trying to lose weight, and have been doing pretty well all week. however, tonight after dinner i totally binged on bread and nutella (which, if i may add, is like the food of the gods). now i have two questions: first, when i binged, i wasn't even hungry - i was full - how can i stop that? and second, how should i retaliate? should i eat really light tomorrow?

thanks in advance :]

Chalk it up to a bad day and move on with normal eating tomorrow. If you play the game of 'catch up' every time you binge, you'll food yourself in to thinking it is OK because you can always make up for it tomorrow... soon it will be happening more and more often until you are ALWAYS binging. Not good.

You won't get fat from 1 night of bread and Nutella. And, yes, we agree it is the food of the Gods! I wonder why you even used bread when a spoon is faster! :)

Whatever you do, don't skip breakfast. It will come back to bite you.

Well your body might need those foods so eat them regularly and if you think you are to fat remember that you were made that way and don't listen to what anyone has to say. if you do this you will like the way you feel.

dont worry you can burn the calories by exercising

drink a lot of water
itll clean your system
and dont starve yourself
thjats just bad

If ur worried about the food u ate, excersize. It makes u feel better and u can stop worrying about that bing. Instead of binging chew on a piece of sugar free gum.

No, you should just eat like you have been eating before you binged. If you eat light, your expanded stomach will NEVER get full so you'll binge again. And as for your first question, its okay to go off every now and then, especially when its your favorite, I'd just limit it to every 6 weeks.

And since you like Nutella you could try finding some chocolate or hazelnut alternatives at your grocery store!

You can't fix the msitakes you made in the past. All you can do is maybe add a little extra to your workout tomorrow, and take is as lesson learned in how easy it is to slip up. If temptation isn't readily available, you won't be able to indulge yourself like that.

And keep in mind, bread is carbohydrates, which give you long lasting energy. Nutella is primarily made with nuts. Yes, there is alot of sugar, but it has a good amount of protein too. I'm not saying it was okay to totally pig out, but at least it was on something that has nutritional value.

But it sound slike you may eat when you are bored. figure out why you binged when you weren't even hungry and tackle that aspect to prevent it in the future.

You must accept the fact that you made a mistake, and do not let it happen again. Continue to eat in a healthy way, while ensuring you get all your nutrition. Do not eliminate any single food group in your quest to lose weight.

Having cravings is a warning that your body is not getting what it needs. Do not eliminate anything such as fat, as it is necessary for life. If you ensure you are getting all the nutrition (ie: vitamins, minerals) that your body needs, you will not having cravings. If you binged on bread (carbs) and nutella (carbs and fats), you are probably being too restrictive in those areas. Try incorporating more fresh fruits such as apples and grapes, and having a little healthy fat in the beginning of the day (ie: ONE serving of PB or raw peanuts). Fiber is also key to weight loss, because it promotes a feeling of fullness. Therefore, you would be happy with less food, and would lose weight faster.

No, do not eat really light tomorrow. Keep going at a steady pace, and don't let the occasional screw up bring you down.

IMPORTANT: If you are always hungry, you are NOT eating correctly. You should spread your food out throughout the day, and be reasonable. The faster you lose weight, the more likely you are to gain it all back. You didn't gain xx pounds overnight, so you can't lose them overnight, either.

Best of luck,
Mark

Don't beat yourself up about what happened tonight, but do make an effort to eat sensibly tomorrow. As you begin to pay attention to what you are eating (as you were tonight when you realized afterward that you were no longer hungry when you snacked) - you can begin to make better choices. And throw out the nutella... your body does not need nutella. Trust me on this one. Have a handful of almonds maybe, but pitch the nutella. Even a small square of good quality (70 % +) chocolate is better for you. Focus on eating to nourish your body rather than just eating to get full. You will start to choose things that really benefit your body and give you energy rather than things that just turn to fat (carbs). Good luck!

It's ok baby, if you binge once in a while don't worry about it, just get back on track the next day. Just go back into your regular diet. Good luck.

Stop eating when you're full!
Lots of teens (and adults) eat when they're bored, lonely, or stressed or keep eating long after they're full out of habit. Slowing down can help because it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to recognize how much is in your stomach. Sometimes taking a break before going for seconds can keep you from eating them. Avoid eating when you feel upset or bored - try to find something else to do instead (a walk around the block or a trip to the gym are good alternatives). Many teens find it's helpful to keep a diary of what they eat and when. Reviewing their diary later can help them identify the emotions they have when they overeat or whether they have unhealthy habits. A registered dietitian can give you pointers on how to do this.

Eat less more often!
Many people find that eating a couple of small snacks throughout the day helps them to make healthy choices at meals. Stick a couple of healthy snacks (carrot sticks, a low fat granola bar, pretzels, or a piece of fruit) in your backpack so that you can have one or two snacks during the day. Adding healthy snacks to your three squares and eating smaller portions when you sit down to dinner can help you to cut calories without feeling deprived.

Don't banish certain foods.
Don't tell yourself you'll "never" again eat your absolutely favorite peanut butter chocolate ice cream or a bag of chips from the vending machine at school. Making these foods forbidden is sure to make you want them even more. Besides, you need to have some fat in your diet to stay healthy, so giving up all fatty foods all the time isn't a good idea anyway. The key to long-term success is making healthy choices most of the time. If you want a piece of cake at a party, go for it! But munch on the carrots rather than the chips to balance it out later in the evening. For more on Fast Foods >>

Forgive yourself.
So you were going to have one cracker with spray cheese on it and the next thing you know the can's pumping air and the box is empty? Drink some water, brush your teeth, and move on. Everyone who's ever tried to lose weight has found it challenging. When you slip up, the best idea is to get right back on track and don't look back. Avoid telling yourself that you'll get back on track tomorrow or next week or after New Year's. Start now.
