Are sports where an athlete has to "make weight" healthy for a growing!

It can be very unhealthy! Making growing kids gain/lose weight by "crash diets" or other unhealthy means can affect your metabolism, exactly like you say.
i really think it depends on the amount of weight.i wrestled at 154 but only had to lose about 3-4 lbs for each match.the loss lasted long enough to get weighed in and wrestle then i got it back.
