Is anyone else saddened by the astonomical amount of questions pertaining to fat!

Question: Here are my measurments...am I fat?
I weight this much at this age...am I fat?

It makes me sad that so many people are so uncomfortable with themselves--especially because it seems that most of the askers are young girls. I have also noticed a new trend of young boys asking desperate questions about how to lose weight and tone up.

I am 23 and I know that my generation has been infected with this kind of poison but is it me or does it seem that it is getting worse and worse. Now 10 year olds are worried about being fat and unattractive.

I completely agree. I think the western world is becoming worryingly superficial.

I feel especially uncomfortable about 10, 11, 12 year olds worrying about body image and that kind of thing. It just doesn't seem right.

YES!! It's horrifying. I do wish that people could just be happy with how they are.

It's a very sad reflection on our society.

It's sad that they are unhappy with themselves and sad that they are so uninformed. There is not set weight for height/age. There are so many variables involved.

Your body is your temple. Feed it with healthy foods and keep it active and you're all good.

dont really care about it, ..

what makes me "sad" or "sick" rather is all these girls that post pictures "am i pretty?" ..that is so pathetic and desperate...
and even the ones who post pictures "how should i cut my hair" when they're only looking for compliments.

what is sad also is...that women or "children" who feel they are old enough to have sex yet not bright enough to realize how stupid it is to ask yahoo answers "am i pregnant?"

I totally agree and I can't believe there are people that answerer them and say yes you are. I wish instead of focusing on fat we focused on being healthy. I saw on Pen and teller BS that the BMI scale means even Brad Pitt is obese so although I do believe our society does have a weight problem we are approaching it in the wrong manner.

no not at all I'm 23 and I'm cut I'm not fat at all

There is a big weight problem and it goes across all ages for males and females. So long as there are foods that exceed a reasonable amount of calories for a full meal in one serving and so long as there are television sets and kids that don't have active lifestyles there are going to be problems. I think it's fascinating and creative that there are forums like this one, where really good answers can be accessed quickly. I grew up with just as many unhappy, overweight kids around me in the mid 80s but we didn't have the internet to find solutions. I found my weight loss solutions online, from learning about DDR to learning how to divide my calories among five or six small meals. If I had the internet when I was 12 years old and my weight problems were new and smaller, I might have found workable solutions sooner. So I'm not saddened by the questions. In comparison to the number of people in the world, the number of fat related questions aren't that mind blowing. It's about time people did something about it. Just because you're 10 or 12 and heavy doesn't mean you should wait or not ask questions.

Even when the questions are from people with anorexic questions I'm glad they can come online and get the attention they need. I'm more saddened by the meaners that come on here and make destructive comments that are cruel and pointless. Yet even those comments have their impact and I know I've let them affect me in positive ways, letting them remind me that I may have body flaws from being overweight and losing a lot of weight that won't go away without surgery, but at least I'm not cruel and uneducated.

I think your question is a good one that deserves a straight answer. I hope you aren't sad for long because this isn't worse or a new trend. Boys have had this problem and girls had it just as bad before my generation too. It's so good that no one has to face this alone and isolated.

Yes it's horrible. There's so much pressure to be skinny these days and it leads to depression and a whole bunch of eating disorders. It also makes ppl who aren't skinny feel bad!

Yes, it's a problem, especially for these really young kids who are going to freak out when puberty hits and they gain tons.

But that's not to say there is no problem, in the US 60% of people are overweight so it's not like it's just an issue of vanity.

The real problem is that all these people are only interested in losing weight and don't have any desire to exercise or eat right because it's a good thing to do.
