Calorie question, consuming vs. burning... please read.?!

Question: Ok, I'm a little confused. If you're supposed to burn more calories then you consume, wouldn't you be in the gym all day?? If you're on a 1500 calorie diet, it would take hours to burn more then that off. I just started working out (after having a baby) and I only burned 310 calories on the elliptical. Was it even worth it? There's no way to burn over 1500, that seems crazy! Do you have to do this EVERY day?? Am I misinterpreting something here??

no, just to stay alive your body burns 1000 - 1300 cals a day, so you only need to burn the excess off. don't worry, you don't have to spend your entire day working out.
There are a few calculators online that will find out your basal metabolic rate - what you burn just by being alive. just google it

More power to you if like working out, but its not the quickest way to lose weight. A strict diet and light exercise is the best way in my opinion. Walking a mile a few times a week with a 1000-1200 calories a day helped me lose over 50 pounds so I suggest that method. Portion control is the key word! Godd luck!!
