How to get rid of a "thick" build?!


Question: I was a college athlete and shorter than most, 5'8, but made up for it with a really thick build. Think Emmitt Smith. But now in my late 30s, I'm wondering what I could do to have a thinner build. I don't eat much and mostly choose healthy things. I think just my metabolism is stuck in a certain place, even if I spend 10 hours a week in the gym doing hard training.

I can do 150 legitimate pushups in three sets of 70-50-30, and have a 50-plus-inch chest and 38-waist. But at my height, and in office clothes, I probably just come off as "stocky."

Any tips to get leaner without losing strength, or should I just work with what I have?

endurance (think running) rather then strength training will tend to build longer thinner muscles, that being said, a lot of it is just genetics.

Some guidlines suggest you eat between 5-6 meals a day. I am sort of in the same boat. I have always been stocky. I am currently using a program called P90X to help me lose weight and lower body fat %.

Also drink lots of water.
