Depressed about my weight?!

Question: I am 16, 5'5" and 125 pounds. I didn't know I weighed that much until I checked the scale at the gym this afternoon. Now I'm really depressed.

I suspect it's mostly all muscle but its still annoying.. I want to reduce muscle but not turn flabby! How is it possible.. My legs are like bulky with muscle and I'd rather have slender toned legs than thicker toned legs. Raaaah :(

I'm wondering if fasting and eating less would help because than my body would go into my muscles for nutrients and eat away some of my muscle, and if I continued to exercise at my pace my fat would stay down to? How does that plan sound?

Judging by your answer to a previous question I can tell you now that 700 calories is just too low for you. Your body has gone into starvation mode and will not allow you to drop the weight on that kind of regime - well it will eventually but you may end up in the hospital! O.K. a much better idea is to devise a plan where you are eating the right amount of calories for your body and carry on with your gym times. Never go by what the scales tell you -in fact don't step on them! As long as you still look good in your clothes this is all that matters. Maybe you are not meant to have slender toned legs - look at the women (I am presuming you are one) in your family and you will see your family shape. Don't go and starve yourself as you will end up in councelling. People with low self esteems and poor body image end up with eating disorders which can lead to death. Be careful and good luck!

dont go by the scale, your weight constantly flucuates, go by measurements. i am 31, 5'2 130 pounds and very lean and have very low body fat :)

Your an idiot right??? i would kill to be that weight......seriously your getting depressed for nothing!!! 125 in not bad AT ALL!!! BE THANKFUL YOUR NOT OVERWIEGHT!

That is not fat

r u 4 real?

you are totally wrong 125 is not not thank god that u are not overweight iam 18 and i weight 143 know that is fat dont be silly be glad u weight that .....

Wow. 125 pounds is not that much. Don't change your eating habits. It's GOOD to have muscle! Repeat that... muscle is good... muscle is good... muscle is good. Do not worry about weight. I am 6 feet tall and about 140 pounds. Some people think I am too thin. But I do not care. Neither should you, unless your weight is threatening your health, which it sounds like it is not doing.

first off, don't diet! teenagers require a lot more calories then grownups, because you are still developing and growing which takes a lot of energy. second, at 5'5" being a male ( i assume ) 125 is BELOW AVERAGE for your age and height, healthy weight is between 100-141 lbs.

you say you are muscular, which makes me assume you are not flabby with fat. if you want lean muscles, try to take up exercise that focuses on that like pilates versus heavy lifting.

you should really read the linked site, it has a calculator and chart at the bottom of the page.

Sorry, but shut up! Im the same height as you and i weigh 132 pounds so I DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR ON ABOUT!!!! if someone has to be worried here its definatly not you and definatly me, mkay?

Talk to your doctor. He/she'll tell you everything you need to know. They're there to help you with things like this and are the only ones who should be giving you any advice for this.
