Fartleks have been around a long time. Nothing new.

That may be true, but it is difficult for some to do that.

From personal experience, 2 years ago I started walking an hour or so a day (at least 5 miles each day). I lost 40 lbs. within 4 or 5 months.

I suppose if you could include sprinting in your walking plan, you could spend less time to get the same results.

Sprinting, as in short bursts of speed? No. Getting your heart rate up and keeping it there for 30-60 minutes. Yes.

It's true that running burns off my fat, but walking actually burns off more sugar.

So it depends on whether you just ate a chocolate bar and are feeling quilty about it. If so, go for a walk. But if you ate the same chocolate bar but 3 or 4 hours ago, running will burn off the fat that would have been created from the sugar in the bar after a certain amount of time.
