Jumping rope.. without the rope?!

Question: It still burns the same calories with/without the rope right? Does it matter if I have the rope or not? Can't I just jump pretending that the rope is there?

The answer to your question is: yes and no. If you jump rope much, you'll notice most of the difficulty comes from the arms, rather than the jumping part. Sure, you're jumping, or running, depending on how you do it, but your legs are a lot stronger than your wrists, which have to turn the rope a full revolution around your body for each jump. So no, you won't get the same workout from just jumping, without the rope. However, put a couple of five or ten pound weights in your hands, and move your arms and wrists as though you were jumping rope, and I guess it could be even better. Why would you want to, though, if you don't mind me asking? All the fun is in the timing, and you never know if you've got that without the rope.

Sorta like playing an air guitar...eh.

you can, but dont go to a gym to do it, i think they may feel you are a bit strange.

yes

I imagine it would burn the same calories and hurt a lot less when you miss.. lol

Sure. It's easier to be coordinated and such with the rope, but still possible. When jumping rope, though, there's the usual technique - little jump to get ready, big jump to jump over rope, little jump to get ready, big jump to jumper over rope and so on and so forth. A tip, though, exercise-wise, is to skip the little jumps of course. Just keep jumping high and quickly as if you were jumping over the rope ^^.

Yeah you can, I've had to do that a few times when I did kickboxing - I kept forgetting to bring my skipping rope, It does still burn the amount of calories :)
