Considering Weight Watchers ..?!

Question: I am diabetic , and my doctor, wants to me to shed some poundage, I have been successful so far since Jan, I am down about 18 pounds, but need to kick it up a notch.
Is it worth joining weight watchers, will it help speed up the process.?
Thanks
Kris

any weight watchers in Ahwatukee AZ?

Honestly, I went to WW because my doc referred me to a surgeon... and that surgeon (for a simple routine procedure un-weight related) told me to go to WW. I convinced myself it was doctor's orders. I felt like I was giving up, going to that first meeting, like I was giving in and admitting that I couldn't handle my weight on my own.

What I found, though, was real-life people in exactly the same fight that I was - trying to eat healthy, but not sure how, and becoming so miserable because nothing seemed to work.

What WW does is assign you a specific amount of points per day... and each food gets a point value, based on calories, fat, and protein - protein is good, fat and calories are bad.

What did this teach me? That carrot cake, even though there's carrots in it... is about 4x as bad as regular birthday cake.... it's 4 pts for the regular cake, and 16 for the carrot cake... yeah, that tells you it's horrid. It also taught me that most salads, as prepared by restaurants, have more calories and fat than a regular entree - a great relief for me, I hate salads! I learned to think one meal at a time, one day at a time, and now it's like clockwork. I learned that if I thought about and planned my excercise routine, it's not so bad, and sometimes I really look forward to trying stuff out. I learned new ways to cook foods, so I could still eat the foods I like, they're just prepared differently. I also learned that ice cream is superbad for me, because I don't stop at one scoop.... and that if I eat the amount of veggies/fruits they want me to, and drink my water, then I don't have much room left over for bad stuff... but I have plenty of points to spend. I also learned that when I'm at lunch at work, I might not be so hungry to need to eat the fried chicken, that the side of fruit they give just might be enough... and if it's not, I have an alternate plan - an apple, banana, something healthy to snack on to keep me going throughout the day. Just cuz it's lunch doesn't mean I need to pig out. Just cuz it's Christmas doesn't mean that I should eat like it's my last meal.

There are a lot of stuff you'll learn at WW, even if you just go for a month, but you'll have a great time doing it! It is definitely worth it.

I would definitely recommend weight watchers. My mom has been on it and just lost twenty pounds. It is very healthy, and you loose weight reasonably.
