I'm trying to lose weight -- am I restricting calories too much?!

Question: I'm getting married in October. Currently I weigh about 205 lbs and would love to get down to 170 (would prefer 150lbs, but I doubt there's enough time for that).

So far this is what I have eaten today:

1) 400 Calories Sausage, Egg and Cheese Crossaint Sandwich

2) 120 Calorie Bag of Pretzels

3) 24 oz of water

It may not seem like it, but that's a major improvement for me -- I normally skip breakfast, eat a large bag of Doritos and Turkey and Pepperjack Cheese sandwich with a ton of mayonaise, a Snickers candy bar and a can of either Sprite or Cherry Coke.

I'm afraid that eating way less food is going to cause my body to hold onto the pounds.

no, it wont. however it is easier if u dont cut back as much, because cutting back that many calories, will most likely result in u giving up on your diet, unless u r really really going to do it. thats pretty good. alos, the air pop popcorn, has very few calories. just a sugesetion. also, replacing all of your drinks with water can make u lose 25 pounds in just a few months. my sister tried it and that helped her alot. your doing good, just dont start slacking off, and youll be fine. good luck and congrats on getting married soon. hope i helped. =D

If you are under 21 be sure to get all your food groups so you can grow tall, you need to get a certain number of calories each day.

you could lose up to 60 pds by then count calories keep them at 1000 to 1200 a day good luck

That seems like a good diet if you're trying to lose that much weight. I'd try to add in a few fruits and maybe some grains like a cereal every once in a while.

trust me, don't eat any dinner afther 6:00 pm and you should be good,

How about eating lots of healthy foods like vegetables, chicken breast, turkey, etc... instead of eating a sausage egg and cheese crossainwhich? god...ppl are dumb. ANd yes you are cutting calories too much

In my experience it is never good to eat such a small amount... because usually you can never last that long with so few calories and it ends in a huge food binge because you are basically starving your body. I would try something like eating really healthy foods with lots of fiber throughout the day (fiber helps make you feel full for longer). You are less likely to be hungry and therefore less likely to cheat on your diet! Good luck :)

Hi my dear!

Well you sound a lot like me! I have had to change the way I eat- sounds like this is your next step.

Sausages, pretzels, eggs cros- this is for the old you.

Go to REAL AGE dot com and find some recipes that will work.

Here's a hint- Fiber Rich Foods

You should click on my name and click on the avitar with the name Yadi on it she knows a really good way to loose weight...We both tried it...=] Or just send me an email and I will ask her to write it down 4 me.....Something like caine pepper....

I'm on a diet too and what truly truly works hun is to eat very small meals around 5 times a day. Maybe one in the morning, midmorning, midday, mid afternoon and evening. But the meals shud be of healthy food and REMEMBER YOU SHOULD ALWAYS EAT PROTEIN WITH UR MEALS because it helps to break down the food u eat so u don't get fat that's why eggs whites and chicken are best. Hop this helps

protien will help you feel fuller and last longer then the pretzels ( my favorite ) . it just takes a little planning for protien snacks, cottage cheese string cheese yogurt , tuna in a can , and eating small meals is great too!! good luck and congrats on your wedding!!

Its good that you ate breakfast but it was still really high in calories, you should try oatmeal or cereal and some fruit for breakfast, if your in a hurry like I always am try a granola breakfast bar. You need to make sure you are drinking enough water too, you should be drinking 8-10 glasses a day, this will help to curb your hunger. Don't forget to work out even if you only do a 30 minute brisk walk it is better than nothing.

Eat small amounts throughout the day to aviod holding on to the pounds. You should be eating about 1500 calories a day to lose the weight in a healthy manner.

Don't starve yourself, and DO excersice. Start with walking around the block a couple of times. Eventually, you'll want to get your heart rate up to about 140+ (it depends on your age) for about 30-60 minutes each day - but you'll want to take in some additional calories to make sure you're staying healthy. Maybe about 1800 if you're excersicing heavily for 60 minutes a day.

Remember, diets don't work. It has to be a lifestyle. 1000 calories a day is not a lifestyle, it's starvation.

Also, weightlifting is great for burning calories. Each pound of muscle is heavier than fat (so it take up less room, making you look skinner), and has the bonus of burning fat all day long. Adding some small amount of muscle will let you eat a little more, and stay thin.

Do not skip breakfast. It slows down your metabolism. That is the biggest mistake people make.

Try negative calorie foods.

some tips for weightloss

---- Eat breakfast everyday
---- Eat smaller, more frequent meals(eat 4-6 six small meals)
---- Eat Negative calorie food :Negative calorie foods are foods, which use more calories to digest than the calories the foods actually contain. For example, if you eat 200 calories of a food that requires 250 calories to digest, then you've burnt an additional 50 calories simply by eating that food.
list of negative calorie foods:

http://getweightlosstips.blogspot.com/20...

---- Strength training and aerobic exercise : Start a workout routine . Try 30-60 minutes of physical activity a day and incorporate weight training into your workout.
---- Eat fruits and vegetables -Increase your intake of fiber rich foods
---- Replace white rice, bread, and pasta with brown rice and whole-grain products
---- Drink more water
Drinking water is important for losing weight .Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat.
---- Increase your protein intake
Protein makes us feel full. It helps in replacing and building muscle tissue. More muscles burn more fat.
---- Do not skip meals
Skipping meals slows down your metabolism and makes you hungry which you tend to compensate by eating a lot later.
---- Spice up your food
Spices boosts metabolism, suppresses appetite, reduce fat absorption and add taste to your meal.
---- Take the stairs and park your car further away from the shops
It will help increase the number of steps you take in a day and will burn a few more calories .

Eating less will make it easier for your body to store fat. While you are eating less, you will lose weight, but as soon as you get off of your diet, it will come right back. What you need to to is something that I saw on television and it works.
1. Eat when you are hungry-when your body tells you physically that you are hungry, not when you are bored or have a craving.
2.Eat what you want-If you deprive yourself of the foods you love, it will not help at all.
3.Eat conciously-chew your food slowly, put the fork down after every bite, and dont have any distractions such as TV, radio, etc...
4.STOP EATING WHEN YOU ARE FULL.

That's it. It works. And if you still want to count calories, dont do it the way you are. Set a limit of how many a day, like 1200 or so, and dont exceed your limit.

I'm a recovering anorexic. Eating less will make your body retain the pounds. When you eat less, your body will go into "survival" mode, and eventually teach itself to store fat. Then when you do eat, your body will store the fat, and it will be put on.

You should not only watch what you eat, but exercise. Eating healthy isn't all about broccoli and bananas. There are plenty of foods you can eat that isn't calorie restricting, and good for you.

A BAG of pretzels?

Rather than 400 cals of fast food on the go, why not have a fruit salad for breakfast? Some pineapple and mango, tropical is always fun.
That 400 cal fast food is horrible for you and may only be 400 cals, but how many cals are from fat, and how much SODIUM and just bad bad stuff for you is there.

http://www.thatsfit.com/2008/03/25/can-t...

Here is a list, along with simple exercise, that you should follow, and let it work for you.

BTW - When you eat an abundance of fruits and veggies, you can eat however much you want and not have to worry about calories, because those calories will WORK for your body.

Good luck, congrats on the engagement and wedding, and keep me posted on your weight loss :)

Good job eating breakfast. Eating breakfast is good, because it gets your metabolism working. If you don't eat breakfast, then your metabolism won't work as well, and you won't loose the weight that easily. Plus breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so yeah, keep it up.

Basically, set a number of calories you want to eat. Your body burns about... 2,000 calories a day, so eat something less than that. Like, maybe on the first day, you start out with 1,000 calories. Then the second day, you have 900 calories or something like that.

Also, you can have salads or something, that are very low in calories, that way you don't have to starve yourself. Plus, you're eating like.. not alot, and not something that's very healthy, pretzels, so you might as well have veges or something that will actually help you burn the fat off.

And, drinking alot of water helps.

Oh, and try to eat three meals a day, around the same time each day, so you're metabolism will work right.

And don't starve yourself one day, and then eat in a different pattern the other day or something wierd, because then you'll just have double the weight added onto you.

You're right. Eating less than 1200 calories WILL cause your body to hold on to the pounds.

It's not how much you eat but WHAT you eat.

Cut out the salt. Just kill the salt shaker completely. To include the "fake" salt.

Cut out the sodas. To include Diet. Know what? There's no SUGAR in diet soda, but they make up for it with a LOT of sodium.

Speaking of which, cut out sugar.

Do these things, and drink drink drink your water, eat lots of FRESH fruits and vegetables, lots of fresh fish, chicken breasts (not thighs, too much fat), turkey breats (same reason), and very little red meat,

Rice and potatoes are okay, but not with butter or margarine...boring I know, but I have found that SALSA (low sodium, organic of course!!) is my BEST FRIEND!

Cook with it, pour it over baked potatoes, it's good eats! Try baking chicken/fish with salsa poured over it. Good stuff!

Get your 30-60 mins of exercise a day,

and you'll lose the weight no problem.

It's not how much you eat, it's WHAT you eat.

I have cut my calories and lost 24 pounds in a month. This is what I'm doing.
Breakfast slimfast. (that way I get vitamins)
Lunch a sandwich and a 100 calorie snack
Dinner Chicken breast and veggies and rice. You can eat just about anything. Just count your calories. I allow myself up to 900 a day. I count everything. If 32 cheetos are 130 cals. I count out 32 cheetos. lol.. it's working! Also i just joined the gym. Stay away from the fast food. Subway is okay, but don't get cheese it's way to many calories. Everyones gonna say your crazy. But you'll see results. I lost 13lbs the first week.
GOOD LUCK

Sweetie, First congrats to you on your upcoming wedding! How exciting and great that you want to get healthy and fit beforehand. I think that's a great goal. I try to eat better everyday as well. My first advice to you is to plan on eating 1200-1800 calories a day. From what they say, it doesn't matter how you get the calories. I don't think like that, I try to make my calories healthy. So far today I think you are getting your calories for sure. You would get a lot more bang for your calorie buck if you switched out the crossandwich for two- two hundred calorie meals. Start your day with Kashi go lean crunch hot cereal around 8:30am. Then at 10:30 have a two hundred calorie snack like a lowfat single serving cottage cheese and a bunch of fresh veggies with a diet coke. This will keep you full and healthy until lunch. Have a Turkey sandwhich with mustard and an apple. For your snack have a 100-calorie popcorn and green tea. For dinner eat a lean cuisine, a salad with fat free viniagrette dressing. For your chocolate fix have a sugar-free jello pudding (they are really good and only 60 calories.) This will keep you well within the limit of your calories. If you walk every night after work you might even be able to meet your 150 goal but you need to start today.

Cut it out with that candy bar stuff!!! That will murder your diet. If you need chocolate have that pudding or a chocolate slim fast bar! Trust me they are good. Take time and plan your day ahead of time. Go to the grocery store. Cut up veggies. Buy some fruit. EAT IT!! Do not eat pretzels. They are low in calories but you will be hungry in half an hour because they are pure flour. You'd be better off having two glasses of water without them. Trust me. I used to be a carb junkie.

Good luck. I hope this helps. The first two weeks it will be hard but if you start today, by the weekend you will already be proud of yourself.

no, you are doing really well. but don't eat a croissant, 1 croissant has more fat than 2 glazed donuts! you also need to be looking at your fat intake too. drink plenty of water and eat small meals that are 300-400 calories every 2-3 hours because it keeps your metabolism up. snacks should be like 150 calories max. buy those 100 calorie pack things at the grocery store, they help a lot....especially if you have a sweet tooth. remember portion control. your stomach sends a message to your brain 8 minutes AFTER your stomach is full, which means that you don't feel full until 8 minutes after your stomach is already full. try cutting your plate of food in half and if you feel no longer hungry after the first half then save the second half for later! also your plate should consist of: 1/2 plate of veggies, 1/4 plate of carbs, 1/4 plate of lean protein. High protein bars/shakes by slim fast are great because they have 15 g of protein, are low in calories, and they make you feel full! you also need to be doing some kind of exercise 30 minutes a day. remember that this isn't about just losing weight...it's about getting healthier. cut out soda, alcoholic drinks, and fatty sugary sweets. good luck!

You are going about this all wrong. I have a degree in Home Economics or what you call "Family and Consumer Sciences." You are putting your body into what we call the "starvation" mode. Once you do that, anything that you put in there pretzels included, will just start to turn to fat and your energy will disappear. Have you notice your energy failing already? You have plenty of time to get the pounds off in that length of time.
I wish I knew what your start weight was.....anyway. I lost a 100 pounds in 6 months, doing this----(and I wasn't even trying hard)---Put yourself on scheduled meals and eat about 5 times a day and never eat after 7 p.m. or within 4 hours of your bedtime (and if you are hungry before bed and have a growling tummy, drink a cup of milk). In the morning get up and make a cup of old fashioned oats (you can even put sugar & cinnamon in it a little)...then when you get hungry before your big lunch, only eat what you can hold in one hand without dropping it and try carrots or celery or an apple. Then have the biggest meal of the day at lunch --I used to get a whole Farm-market sandwich from Arby's and give half of it to someone else but if you are going to be doing a LOT of afternoon activity, eat the whole thing. then each time your stomach starts hurting to eat, a handful is all and WAIT until it starts hurting. The rules are, eat only what you have in your hand, drink 6-8 glasses of water (distilled is my favorite-it tastes sweet like water should- but then you have to take vitamins to get your minerals). then do not eat after 7 pm. Milk will help you LOOSE weight--try 2%.....YOU will find that you have unending energy---DO NOT DRINK artificially sweetened carbonation drinks, they make you CRAVE sugar...instead try cranberry juice over the rocks (ice) with each meal and it will give your body other things that I wager you have not been getting. Try to always stay away from carbonation as a woman because it steals calcium from your bones. You can even have ONE half a 3 Musketeers bar with lunch on this and I will repeat, I lost 100 pounds and felt 10 years younger.
I wish you success. (If you want to speed up your success and lose almost a pound every other day, you can read while walking on a treadmill and your body won't even feel the burn because your mind is on something else)

calories do obviously matter but the ammount of fat in a food is often also important, if for example you decide to eat a 350 calorie meal, you could just eat a big chocolate bar but you wont lose weight because of the fat content. i lost quite a bit of wight last year and i it thought this might help, this is what i did on an average day.
(never skip breakfast)
Breakfast= bowl of cornflakes, fat free yougurt, banana
(i didnt have lunch as such, i had small snacks to raise metabolism)
Snack 1=protein bar
Snack 2=1/2 a cheese sandwich
Snack 3=bowl of fruit, eg melon, grapes etc
Dinner=Bacon sandwich
Evening snack=fruit
Drinks= orange squash, water, diet coke
during my weight loss i ate no junk food and exercised
basically every day.(not just walking the dog)
i always ate between 900 and 1300 calories,
i know its not much but it worked, i'm not saying it will definitely work for you as every persons body is different, but i hope you found this useful and good luck with your diet

well you know thosoe new slim fast bars try them and do 15,25.or 50 situps however many you can do and after every 1 or 2 days double it until you get to 500 istarted with 10 and then 20 and then 40 and so on and so on i droped 72 pounds in 4weeks but i doubled the sit ups every day and i got up to probaly 1000 and be sure to jog a little like the fat linbackers jogg its nothing but fast walkinf execpt more hop in your step[warning you may over stress your stomach muscles in which you should put a warm cloth on your stomach.] Please anybody who tries this or dosen't belive what i am saying feel free to email me!!!
