Yes! I've heard of that...my local news station did and expose on that a couple of weeks ago.
Apparently, a COSMETOLOGIST in the area does this for people and they swear they lose like a bunch of weight. They paid about $75 for it. An MD was interviewed and he said that licensed medical doctors should be altering people like that, if anyone, and he didn't recommend the practice. If the staple is not placed in the right position (or over the right nerves), it can cause damage to your ear and hearing.
If the person is not associated with and licensed by the state medical boards, don't do it!

How would that work? Does your friend eat through their ears?
