I have been there it is not as easy to gain weight as people think. He should keep track of everything he eats a food diary. It helps to show where ha can add food and calories to things. Like if he had chips for a snack add dip. crackers at Peanutbutter. also protein shakes you can get them at gnc. It is amealsupplement but you can add alot of calories fast. Carnation instant breakfeasts or boost. It is probably the easiest and best way to add calories. You need good healthy calories still. And where he is athletic they give you a good pick me up . I was 76lbs and was 5 foot 1. these are the things the diatian had me. do beleive it or not the food diary helps alot. it gives you an idea of what you are taking in and if you can add 500 good calories a week until you start gaining. I never stopped my exercising and it worked. Muscle weighs more than fat. The fact he is an athlete will hel. If he uses the proeing shakes that are at Gnc or similar he will see his muscle tone increase as well. . Bagles and cream cheese Yogurt. Have him take snaks. If he likes breakfeast sandwiches . I gained alot by having one 4 or 5 days a week. Have him get up eat breakfeast. 2 hours later or sooner snack again 3 meals a day with snacks in between. Peanuts another good source of preotein calories. Peanutbutter sandwiches. My son is the same way. I make him this stuff called gorp it is like a trail mix. It has dry cereal(whatever he likes, ( cheroes, kix honeynut cheerios or we have even done captain crunch), Pretzels, ( any kind flavored or choclate covered) Peanuts (any kind dry roasted or honey roasted) any type of little candy ( m&m's reeces peieces or you can add choclate chipt) raisins if he likes them ( we skip that) mix it all together I so a box of cereal and a big bag of all the other things in a big pan that put it in gallon zipper bags some sandwich bags and have him carry it around great easy already made snack. My oun is hypoglicemic it is great for keeping the blood sugar up his friends love it favorite snack if the neighboorhood. You can make it different everytime. slim easy protein snack or beef jerky. toast and PB. all of this should be added to what he already eats. Good luck to him and I know this works. I gained 25 lbs in a year. My son plays ice hockey year round and works out runs cross country. and weighed less than 100lbs at 5 foot 6 he now weighs 130.

After a very tough workout, eating high protien helps build the muscles. With more muscles you will way more. Eating carbs, protiens, fiber, and fats are important in gaining weight. Make sure you dont have unhealthy fatty foods (like BK, Carl's Jr....). Energy bars are great too, they are filled with calories.

Well you should ask your brother if he want to get a bit of meat on his bones. Maybe he wants to stay skinny so that when he runs he doesnt stop because of his weight holding him back

sweets,, and lots of em. my bro is like that and im working on it with him too... also make him eat every chance he's not at school or doing somthing important

what type of body type is he? because it all depends on body fig. some body are super hard to gain muscle mass

ok tell him to eat lots of high protein foods like chicken or eggs

a balanced diet and suitable amount of exercise is essential. any absorption of food pertaining to fast metabolism, any?

If your brother is not at the proper weight for his age, football will not take him. There is too much of a risk of injury.

My first suggestion would be to have him get a checkup. Not gaining enough weight can be a signal of a medical condition and your words "concentration camp victim" really makes me uncomfortable.

If there is no medical reason for him to NOT gain weight, then a high protein diet is a good start. Lean beef and lots of fish with beans, peas, and rice. Potatoes have a good amount of calories in them, but CAN be very filling. Easy on the potatoes and add lots of high calorie vegetables, which can be eaten frequently. Eggplant, corn, artichokes, parsnip, cucumber, fennel, pumpkin, squash. Lettuces and celery are mainly water, leave them out. More compact tomatoes such as Romas are good. Vegetables are best eaten raw, or lightly cooked for a few seconds in a pan.

Remember that everything has to be balanced. The meat cannot be processed without the vegetables, all the amino acids your brother needs are provided in the meat, BUT, soy contains alot of calories It is also not as filling, enabling one to eat more frequently. Soy and tofu does not have to be disgusting! Edamame needs to be cooked properly, it cannot be eaten raw(it can be cooled after cooking), but it provides 100+ calories for a half cup serving. tofu can be marinated and served in small pieces.

Sugary foods will not help your brother. Candy, soda, etc can and most likely will overload his system and make him ill.

Last, make sure this is not an eating disorder. Even exercising too much CAN be an eating disorder! Look carefully into your brothers life itself and see what is going on. If things seem to make you want to take a second look, DO. Eating disorders are not all about eating too much.
Take a look through the different types of eating disorders and become familiar with them.
