Answers: how much exercise and calories do i need to lose 2 lbs a week?

Are you female or male?

I am male, 30 years old, 5' 4" and weighed about 178 lbs in Feb 07 when I went to the Doctor. My cholesterol was severely high so the doctor told me to shed some pounds, eat better and to start working out. I had already joined a gym back in Nov 2006. Which from Nov 06 to Feb 07 I lost no weight but I went down a pants size (from 36" to 35"). My guess was from the muscle I was building using the nautilus equipment. My workouts were about an hour and 15 minutes long. About 4 days on average a week. I would use the elliptical machine (moderate pace, nothing crazy) for 40 minutes and then go through the nautilus circuit twice (which contained about 10 different weight training machines).
I also cut out eating all red meat and fried foods. Limited my meat intake to chicken, turkey and fish. Tried to eat more veggies although I dont really care too much for them.
Also I learned to eat 5 or 6 small meals versus 3 larger meals.
On a typical day:
Banana around 8:00
Oatmeal (not the packaged sweetened kind) around 9:30
Either low sodium soup or low sodium lean cuisine frozen pasta dinner at noon.
3:00 snack - Yogurt
5:30 Dinner - Chicken Breast with a Vegetable (potato, or corn, peas, etc)
Snack at night: Handful of pretzels, or an apple
I kept with the workouts until May 07 and went back to the doctor. I was now down to 158 lbs. and into size 33" pants and my cholesterol lowered about 80 points. I quit the gym because of work travels but would try and walk about 3 miles during the summer months about 3 to 4 days per week. In sept I quit working out and just started back up this month when we bought a treadmill. I am still maintaining the 155-158lb weight but I feel more bloated and my 33" pants are fitting tighter. My diet hasnt been so good lately though so I need to get back to being strict. Hope some of this info helps.

Well, 1 lb is equal to 3500 calories. You really need to know how many calories a day you should eat eat maintain your body's daily functions and then add a little exercise and reduce you daily calories a bit and you will slowly start to see results. I just joined an online calorie counter which is super helpful because you can enter a little personal info (age, height, weight, activity level...) and they will calculate everything for you. It is also super easy to track your daily food intake. Here is the link: Calorie Count Plus http://caloriecount.about.com/
Good luck with improving your health!!

none, beautiful i dig ur pic. CUTENESS.

Lose One Pound of Body Weight by Reducing Calorie Intake by 3500 Calories... If you cut calories too low, your body thinks there is a food shortage and slows down your metabolism to eke out the calories....Lose Weight Too Fast and You'll Lose Water...This is both unhealthy and ineffective. The average healthy human body simply will not shed more than about 2 pounds of fat, per week. But it will shed water, which is what most fast weight loss is - just water loss...
