Weight Loss? .....?!

Question: Why is it that I always lose 5 pounds the first week of weight watchers and tread-milling? And then I always can tell I'm losing more, but the scale never shows it.

I know Ive read not to look at the scale and to look at how your clothes are fitting and stuff, but its so frusterating!

I dont really consider it a plateau because I know im losing more.

Esp. when ppl notice your losing weight, and they say "How much have you lost" And I hate saying 5 lbs bc i know it was more than that. So i usually just respond with "I dont weigh myself" any suggestions? Thanks.

you're probably losing inches and gainning muscle, which is why the scale isnt budging but your clothes are fitting better. i hate my scale, it never moves, but i got a tape measurer and use that like once or twice a month and i see the results there

also, dont know how oftin you weigh yourself, but our weight can fluxuate like 5lbs over the course of the day. not to mention that your time of the month can really effect it too. or sodium intake. i had chinese last night, and whoa, gainned 6lbs! i know its just retainned water from all that sodium but geeze...

so yeah, get a tape measurer, put the scale away for like 2 weeks and see if you make any progress. and if you DO want to weigh yourself, do it at the same time every day, like first thing after waking up and going to the bathroom (get rid of that extra water weight first lol).

and dont weigh yourself after exercising, you usually weigh more after than you did before (learned that at my health club - and verified it!)

First, muscle weighs more the fat. So the fact that the scale isn't moving could be taken as a good thing. Most people are numbers oriented, so it is normal to get frustrated. If you are eating right, exercising daily and drink lots of water, the rest will take care of itself.

Whatever you do don't give up.

Hope this helps,
Stu

If you are still losing weight but saying at the same weight it means you are gaining mussle mass and burning fat. Curves uses the system of measuring your entire body in inches instead of using a scale. You should try this, measure your waist, butt, hips, thighs and arms. Then when you feel like you have lost more weight but the scale says otherwise try taking your measurments again. Then you someone asks how much you have lost you can say "14 inches" or whatever.

Yeah, you are adding muscle mass, which is good; but is confusing with the scale thing. But if you keep working out and doing what you do, you will reach a point of fitness that will plateau the muscle building and start dropping the pounds. Here is the thing though, that could take as long as a year.

This is why we should try not to diet and just make a lifestyle change.
