Help, i need to give up soda?!

Question: a year ago january, i gave up diet coke in exchange for water. in 4 days i lost 5lbs because i was retaining so much water from the sodium in it. i pretty much quick cold turkey.
i did really good for MONTHS, i might have 1 soda a week (usually saturday when we went to lunch). i noticed that if i DID have soda, i usually wanted more. eventually i was having one or two during the work week as well.
then my mom retired this january. since she's home, she's been making my lunch (yes, i know thats lame, but hey, saves me time), but she's gotten into the habit of giving me a soda with my lunch and leaving them on the counter for me. even on days that i dont get lunch, she leaves me a diet coke with my snack. at first, i would just take it, and put it back in the carton in the garage when i left. but then i started taking it with me, cause i was tired or something and just felt like drinking it.
today, i noticed that there was a problem when i finished it in less than an hour

i quit soda too although I was never a junkie and I just did it cold turkey. Once in a while I would allow myself a Pepsi but like you said you begin to want more as it can be addictive. Just give it up cold turkey and always carry a bottle of water with you. Let your mom know that you do not drink soda anymore and if she leaves one out simple walk past it. Once you get out of the habit of drinking soda you wont even miss it.

buy a case of canned juice (canned the same way pop is)
- like 5 alive or something JUICE
or by a case of bottled water or bottled juice.

that way you drink it as a habit just like you would pop - but it's juice !

You get headaches because you've cut caffinne out of your diet. It's your body's way of saying, hey there's something missing here that I normally have. It's a side effect of quiting caffinne when you consume a lot of it. Just keep drinking your water. Get flavored water it you don't like the taste of plain water. You have to have self control and the willingness to want to quit drinking soda.

I would suggest that you try substituting diet teas, diet V8 splash, or perhaps an occasional diet Cranberry Cocktail. The headaches may be due to caffeine withdrawal, I noticed that you said the pop was diet but not caffeine free; therefore, I suggest a diet green tea. This should satisfy your caffeine needs while you slowly step down your caffeine intake. Most diet teas have a calorie intake of 0. If you don't need the caffeine then go caffeine free on the diet teas. The diet V8 Splash gives you a good balance of vitamins at a cost of like 80 cal per half gallon. I suggest the diet Cranberry Cocktail for urinary health maintainece (I try to drink at least 1/2 a gallon myself every week).
