I'm overweight, and would like to lose a few pounds. Any advice?!

Question: Okay, so I've practically been overweight since I was...let's say....7. Yeah---ouch. My parents have been thin all of their lives, and lose weight fast, if you are going to refer to genetics.
I'm 167 pounds, and I'm 5'1" tall.
I'm only 12 people---don't give me the "You're too young to be on Yahoo! Answers." Well, you know what, this is serious here, and it's no joke, okay?

*Ahem*

Anyway, I asked my doctor, and she said that I need to eat fruits and veggies and stuff, and exercise often. I don't eat much junk food, (hardly any at all), but I do snack a lot---considering I'm an emotional eater. I chew lots of gum (Idk if that has anything to do with it...), and I do admit that I could exercise more. Don't tell me I will grow out of it----It's been happening for 5 years, and the doctor said that I'm at risk for diabetes. I'm NOT going to starve myself--it's terrible for you.
So, what can I do? Do you recommend any sites?

There is really only one way to lose weight, and that is to eat less.

Exercising more is helpful, of course, but your real problem is that you are eating too much for your activity level. You need to learn to make healthier food choices, stick with portion sizes, and find a way to do something BESIDES eat when you are upset or bored.

Snacking isn't necessarily a bad thing (in itself) as long as you consider that your "snack calories" have to be included as part of your daily intake ... in other words, you cannot eat 3 full meals and keep constantly snacking if you want to lose weight (or keep from gaining). As long as you are eating healthy snacks, simply cutting back at meals should help you.

I agree with not starving yourself ... you're right, that is NOT healthy, but you may be consuming a lot more calories in a day than you realize. You might not understand what a "portion size" really is (it is smaller than you think!) and even though you say you rarely eat "junk food", you might not be counting things like soda ...

If you try to cut back and eat healthier, but still aren't making much progress, you should meet with a nutritionist ... He or she will be able to guide you toward making better choices and understanding how your body processes the calories you take in, and will provide you with guidelines for a steady, healthy approach to weight loss and how to develop better eating habits for life! Good Luck!

you said it yourself, you snack a lot. Well from now on when you snack, snack on something healty like fruits. Reduce your snacking and do SOME kind of exercise like walking. Its so easy to lose weight its just hard to actually DO IT. If you really care about your healthy you would do it

Well, I'm gonna be honest, you seem very mature for a 12 year old.
