I have Anorexia Mentally, But how do I recover?!

Question: Well first off, I don't look anorexic.. Infact I look pretty healthy. I'm not underweight.. But the truth is "I know I have the mental disease" because constantly the thought of "not eating a lot and trying to burn as many calories as possible" haunts my mind every waking second. And when I decide to eat I go crazy because I think im going to gain weight since everybody tells me I will. Well as a person ill tell you the truth that I only am this way because it makes me feel good to see others feel good about the way I look. And people are judgemental these days. Therefor there first impression on you is "looks" This is the way anorexic's think. And I know because I am one. Its not because we are scared to gain weight. Its because we want to impress others, Not because we are afraid to eat. Most anorexic's are lonely people who have very few friends. So they result in starving themselves to try and look good for others to get attention. How do you recover without getting fat again???

Technically, you might not be anorexic, I don't know that you fit DSM-IV criteria. You may just eat better and healthier than those around you and think you are not eating much. You need to talk to your doctor in depth and let him gauge your situation. We would need a lot more information that what you have provided to know for sure. Fear of getting fat, fear of gaining weight, lots of exercising are not necessarily anorexia. Talk to your doctor.

eat alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

im very sorry.

stay positive

go get professional help. it really is the best way.

Your first step to recovery is not taking advice on this subject from people on yahoo, with the exception of this advice. Your second step is to see a therapist who can treat you. Your third step is to join any sort of program for recovery which your therapist recommends.

see. a psychiatrist

Well maybe just eat normally and if that doesnt help try to work things out with your doctor and maybe he can help.

Just Believe.

Ok, first of all, before we even begin looking at how to recover...you need to seriously sit down and think back to exactly WHY you care what others think about you....

Listen, this is YOUR life, and I say this with the upmost sincerity...this is YOUR life, and you can either make yourself happy or miserable. And you are making yourself miserable....because finding that you are happy by impressing others is not TRUE happiness. If you don't realize this, I'm sure you will realize it later. But I'm telling you now, you have the option. And I think this is a mental disease and it's hard to beat, but you did say that you love impressing other people. Well, if people like you just becuase of your weight, they are not people who care, and they are people who don't give a damn about you, so why care what they think so much! Have some respect for your life. You know what would really impress the people you love and care so much about? If you beat this, and instead of thinking abou tthis every waking second, use the time and really find true happiness. Go to the beach, enjoy yourself, and don't care so much about what others think. As long as you are healthy, you know you are doing something right.

to tell you the truth you don't really ever get over it you don't recover i am also anorexic and so is my friend you just have to cope with it eat healthy and exercise just try not to get to bad i know its hard babe and getting professional help doesnt help because my friend went through rehab for it and she still thinks the same way

First, you have to ask yourself: Is it anorexia or diet? Are you sure you are not overreacting a little? If you still think Its anorexia, I have a few tips for you (as i was once anorexic). GET HELP! Untreated anorexia can be potentially fatal. Statistics say that 20% of people who are anorexic may die due to thier anorexia. Tell your doctor about it, and he will do an assessment of your symptoms, eating behaviors, mental health, etc.

Hope this helps

first of all, i have a hard time believing you are truely an anorexic because you admitted that you look pretty healthy. sure, eventually you may develop the disease over time and obsession, but do not allow that to happen to yourself.

yes, you may think about calories and getting fat every waking second, but that is just something YOU trained YOURSELF to do. just as you trained yourself into doing that, you can RETRAIN your mind about how to look at food and eating. you will not get "fat" if you eat that last bite of salad. just like you wont gain weight getting french fries once in a while. it is a lifestyle of healthy eating and some exercising that will keep you from getting fat. there is a difference between not eating and eating healthy.

you need to stop thinking so shallow and wake up to the real world where people eat and wont judge you for eating. yes, if you are very overweight, a first impression wont look good. however it goes both ways. if you are very underweight, that looks even worse. you need to start thinking about the things that matter. dont get people to see how much your ribs stick out, get them to see how kind you treat others. dont try to get people to notice how you lost 5 pounds, make them notice how caring and thoughtful you have become.
i hope you realize your thinking is very selfish and shallow. i pray that you find things that are truely important in your life.

This is YOUR life. who cares what others think. Your probably skinny enough to not worry about what you eat. Why do you let other peoples thoughts run your life. Im sure they dont care what you think about them. This is a mental disease and there is no easy way to recover. You have to take charge of your life not by choosing what you eat but by doing things that will make you happy. The first step is to admit you have a problem. Then you have to tell ask others for help. which you have already. But now its time to get profesional help because thats the only resolution. If you have a mental disease the truth is that you cant help yourself because youre gunna think what you want to think.
