Foods to add
Almost all tree nuts (peanuts are best)
Certain types of fish, including salmon
Egg whites
Low-fat dressing
All fresh vegatables
Orange juice
Grape juice
Apple juice
Water
Mangosteen juice (studies had shown that this type of
juice scavenges the LDL cholesterol in your arteries as
well as the syntheic statin drugs like Zocor or Lipitor)

Foods to avoid
Egg yolks
The fatty skins on all chicken, whether fried or baked or grilled
Whole milk
Ranch dressing (because it is way too fatty)
Fried rice
Beef jerky
Macaroni and cheese

Additional foods to avoid....
The obvious artery-cloggers....which are some of the fast food items everyone loves....a teeny list:
Big Mac (from McDonalds)
Quarter Pounder With Cheese (from McDonalds)
Double Cheeseburger (from Burger King)
Whopper (from Burger King)
Double Whopper (from Burger King).

But if you want to eat this bad fast food, best to eat only one of those bad items once a month...not once a day. It is hard to cut back on fat and have to give up on taste....

Hope this helps.....

From what I understand, the best way to lower cholesterol is to exercise and maintain a healthy weight. If the man in question is already doing this then medication may be in order. However if he is over weight then he should start an exercise program, such as walking 20-30 minutes, 4+ days a week.

Regarding diet, there are lots of them out there, but my understanding is that any given diet does not work for most people who try it, but if some one is very serious about finding a diet to lose weight then after trying several, he may find one that works for him. I have known people who have done well (lost 50 pounds and kept it off) on Weight Watchers and on South Beach. Those would be the ones I would suggest trying first. I think South Beach can be good for some people because although it is someone restrictive, it is not limiting in calories. That is, of the food you can eat, such as lean meats and vegetables, you can eat as much as you want (so as long as you plan ahead you will not be hungry on it). You can also eat limited amounts of fruits, nuts, and whole grains -- this is nice because it keeps it from getting to monotonous.

Good luck!

A couple years ago, I asked my doctor for a physical and she ordered a blood test but didn't tell me that I needed to fast before the test. I went to a urologist before I had the results read by my family doc and the urologist was looking at my med history and said that my tri-glycerides (spelling?) was really high. He asked me if I had fasted and I told him no. He asked me what I ate before the test and I told him that I ate a bacon, egg and cheese burrito. He looked at me and said, "That's probably why they are so high". So I asked him what if I had eaten a sausage, egg and cheese burrito also......lol.....he threw the charts over his shoulder and said that I was fine..........lmao......so the question is.......did the guy fast before the blood work????? That might be why the doc didn't do anything about his high cholesterol....lol. Just a guess.

Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I'm also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me (it's all 100% natural - a colon cleanse that was really gentle on my body. I feel so good and I lost 15 pounds). You can check the website at
http://www.diet-fun-help.us , I had a free trial and paid less than $5.00 shipping and handling. Best of luck!
