What on Earth is now wrong with eating fat ?!

Question: Hi Folks,

OK, I understand the possible medical problems associated with eating loads of animal fat, but I feel this has gone too far.

I've recently been for a full check-up of the body, and the GP concludes that blood pressure, cholesterol etc, brain scan, echo cardiogram, liver function, and dear knows what else shows that for 52, I seem to be in good nick.

Perhaps I am lucky, but >

I smoke about 10-15 roll-ups a day
Drink folks under the table
Eat fats, I will not buy rindless bacon, watery milk, low-fat pots of things etc, but enjoy crackling, duck fat in things, suet puddings and dear knows what.

These Cheffy blokes recommend keeping the fat content in a meal, as it adds a lot of flavour.

My sympathies to those a tad overweight, but I am 1st underweight, so eat what the heck I fancy.

Is this just another scare tactic to reduce hospital queues ?

Are we supposed to stick to eating celery & nuts ?
Our ancestors did fine on fatty meats.

What do you reckon

I think you are right ,just look how long people are living now many of my friends parents are in there ninety's and are very fit having eaten fat on there meat and in some cases having enjoyed dripping ! If we were to keep a copy of what is written in the papers as to what to avoid and what was good for us, we could collect contradictory advice from the same paper just weeks apart ,I think moderation in all things and a little of what you fancy does you good. The only problem today is people eat about three times to much and don't walk as much as they used to .
So enjoy yourself Bob sounds like you have got it right to me .

i eat what i want when i want and im not overweight but i don't like fatty foods i dislike the taste

Our ancestors not really got that much fatty meat and they had to hunt it first, so they had lots of exercise.
Problem today is that most people just sit around all day but eat like they are very active. Meat developed to a prestige object during the last century, when only rich people could afford it, but then bumpy curves were a sign of being rich too, so was pale skin. This eating habit is still in our system, but everybody wants to be skinny and tanned, somewhat difficult to have both - lots of meat and skinny.
But besides that. Most people nowadays die of nutrition related causes, so even if you are lucky, others are not. Saturated fat is one reason, eating everything without fat full of chemicals doesn't help either. So natural and something of everything, including fats (especially unsaturated (seeds, nuts, fish)) would help a lot.

Some people like you can eat fatty foods and get away with it just like some people can smoke and drink alot and have no side effects. Most people should limit there fat intake because it a fact it leads to heart disease. Our ancestors life expectancy was not all that swell so be carefull.

If you eat to much of it you'll sink the boat Bob!

It's because you have good genes. Most people aren't so lucky.

I think listening to all the advice about what to eat or not eat is a mistake. I have tried and tried and the more tight my diet has been, the more my weight has increased. I think if I shopped more locally, cared less about faddy health advice, ate better portions of good quality food and relaxed more about food I would have less in the way of weight issues. If you find that you can stay healthy and manage your diet without listening to scare mongerers then you go for it.

Big glass raised to eating fat - better for you than carb addiction!
