How can I get healthier as a 13 year old?!


Question: Hi,

First of all, I don't think I'm fat. I just think I'm lazy. It's not the same thing. I just want to be healthier in general because I think it will make me feel happier. So what can I do?

Say good bye to junk food - no McDonald's, Burger King, etc. Start with an easy walk every day - 30 minutes a day of activity to start. Don't plunge right into rigorous exercise if you're not used to it - you'll burn out too quick. Start playing - soccer - volley ball - touch football - or tackle football if you like it - swimming - walking - do things that are fun - not that you dislike. Eat well - lots of vegies - lean meats - fruits - and start your day with breakfast - not junk food breakfast! Start with an egg, a piece of toast and some fruit. If you're on the run - grab an apple or a banana and a low fat muffin. Check the web for recipes for muffins you can make at home that are low fat. Don't skimp on the calories... use common sense. Look up how tall you are, how much you weigh and see if you're within your normal range. If you are - add some fun exercise and keep yourself in healthy shape. If you're not - check the caloric intake you should be taking in for your age and height and stick with it. But most of all - cut out junk food and sodas -

  • you can run with your friends after school bring your own healthy lunch (school lunch is garbage) and join a sports team instead of Myspace lol

    Each day, get up and EAT BREAKFAST. Coming from an 11 year old, I have an older sister and she barely eats breakfast. That is very important. Also get a good source of calcium. Drink milk!!

    Sign up for some after school sport activties such as tennis, swimming or dance.
    Instead of having soda have water, fruit juices (100%!!) or Izzie drinks. DONT HAVE DIET SODAS!
    U can still eat cookies and chips and stuff like that but dont eat them to an excess.
    Sleep earlier and Wake up earlier
    Dont go on diets especially since ur going through devlopment.
    Eat more organic foods (u dont have to eat all organic foods if you dont want to!)
    Dont skip breakfast even if ur not hungry
