Answers: If I'm running for 30 mins at a reasonable speed what should i eat before hand and afterwards. Please be specific.

On my running days (monday, wednesday, friday) I make a smoothie of 2 bananas, juice (usually orange or grapefruit) and some pineapple or mango and blend it all together.

I eat a breakfast of low fat cereal and milk, then about 45 mins to 1 hour before I run I drink my smoothie, and make sure I've already downed at least a litre of water and take a 500ml running bottle of water with me. Water is fuel and will help oxygen get to your muscles.

After my run (about 45 mins to an hour) I eat a large bowl of salad with some fish and some potatoes or pasta and for dinner I have lean protein (turkey, chicken, beef) with steamed veggies or salad and a pudding of some fruit and natural yoghurt or a low fat cereal/cake bar, then flop into bed about 9.30, rest is as important as exercise in helping your muscles repair themselves after stress.

I know you're question wasn't about this really but some tip's I've found that help me.

Warm up thoroughly, I know you might think it wastes time, but the warmer your muscles the longer you will be able to run and the fitter you will get .

Breath in your nose and out of your mouth in a deep steady rhythm this will mean that more oxygen will get to your muscles, helping you to run longer, and you guessed it get fitter.

Warm down, alwasy stretch again after, this is to help your muscles but there is a benefit for women too, warm muscles that are stretched will shift cellulite faster than a fast thing on fast skates!

Plugging stretching but it's so important - the longer and leaner your muscles (acheived through stretching) the longer and leaner your body will look!

Best of luck

banana

I would eat fruit like apples or a banana.
Or a granola bar.
Or protein like nuts or peanut butter

before u can eat foods with carbs so myou can get energy to run longer hence burn more calories after eat bfoods with little calaries fulling yet soothing

Fruit are usually the best thing to eat before exercising. Any kind of fruit is great. Also, if you have fruit drinks or any kind of healthy shakes are usually great also....as long as you don't have to mix them with milk.

its really best not to eat right before a run. u should really wait about 30 min- 1 hour from eating untill running. the food can upset your stomach and give you cramps, affecting your run. but if you want to wait, anything with protein is good. just look on lables around your house. all fruit is good as well, for its light and nutritious, and granola bars are ok.
