I just started running...?!

Question: First of all... i love it!
Second... it feels like the farther i run, the easier / less-tiring it gets, but then when i stop i'm soooo tired!!! How can i make sure that i don't push myself too hard if i don't get tired when i'm actually running? And is this normal??

Well, I am a runner. And, I understand what you are saying about the distance. However, it depends on what pace you are running. If it is a jog, then running more distance is easier for some people. If you are running or sprinting, it should be harder the more distance you run. Basically for pushing yourself, you should just go as hard as you can for as long as you can. Are you running on a team or for health/exercise reasons? I am still in school and I run Cross-Country and Track for my school. I am on the Varsity for Cross-Country, so I know what I am doing.
When you push yourself you don't want to sprint and then walk, you want to find a right pace for yourself. A speed that you are able to run a couple of miles at is usually your pace.
If you are not really tired after a work out, you most likely didn't push yourself.

Some tips for you while running:
1) Make sure that you have a steady breathing, in your nose and out your mouth......even if you feel dead, do not just breath through your mouth......your muscles need oxygen

2)if you run hills, don't slack on them... run your hardest on them..short steps.....

3) focus your arms forward..you have to work your arms... and if you are swinging them around...your speed goes all around...focus your speed forward.

4) keep your form....doing skips and high knees help keep your form.....for when you run;.......

5) always stretch!1

6) if you think you pulled a muscle........ ice it for 10 minutes, take the ice off for 10 minutes and repeat a couple of times (ice relaxes your muscles and really help)

7) drink a lot of water at least 1-2 hours before a race or high intensity work out......don't drink too much close to the time....
you will get cramps....that make your running more painful

8) Have Fun!!!! Run is a way to relieve stress and a hobby...
I love to run.......so just have fun...if you don't do so well on something.....shake it off...you will always have next time!!!!!1

**** And, to improve your running....you should alternate you running techniques. One day do sprint/speed workouts and the next day do distance....in incorporates both into your running and does wonders......and make sure you let your muscles rest for at least 2 days a week, you don't want to over work your muscles....or you are not going to be running for a very long time.....while your muscles heal.....

Good Luck@!!!!

when you start to get too tired, rest!

Track it at http://www.TrainHero.com

good luck!

drink lots of water and try to run a little more each day not like first one mile then 5 miles, try 1.5, 2, 3.5, etc. once you get further, it'll be easier. also if you know that your going to feel tired, slow down your pace. and DON'T JUST STOP!!!! when running also try putting your hands on your head. it opens your lungs and helps you breathe and feel less tired.

dont worry about pushing yourself that is a good thing just make sure to drink LOTS of water and get LOTS of sleep

the v-ball girl is right. I've been running for 6 years, and i was a varsity letterman all 4 years in XC, and i used to have your problem as a junior high schooler. You should continue to push yourself, that is correct, just don't stop until you are done with the workout. Being tired is just a part of running, believe it or not! It's definitely normal, just don't get afraid if you are wayyyyy tired afterwards. it's called post feeling the burn, very healthy. keep it up!

DON'T drink lots of water, that will cramp you up! drink a nice amount, but don't choke yourself. afterwards you ccan drink a lot.
