Nutrition Information?!

Question: On the nutrition info on a food package, when it says "calories from fat" it is just saying how many of the total calories are from fat right? That number isn't added to the total calories or anything?

And are calories from fat worse from calories from sugar, carbohydrates, and protein? if so, what is the "best" type of calorie?

Calories from fat is the portion of the calories (portion calories) that are accountable to the total fat in the product. (Should usually be about the grams of fat x 9).

You want a mix of calories between good carbs, good fats, and protein. A good mix will keep you feeling fuller longer and you end up eating less calories if there is a balance between protein, fat, and fiber.

Sugar is ok in moderation if it's in a natural form - say an apple (it has fiber if you eat the skin, but it also has fructose - sugar that occurs in fruit) - or milk (lactose). You may notice though that the sugar content in fat-free milk is higher than 1% milk.

good fat = poly/mono unsaturated (nuts, olive oil, avoacados, olives)

Hope that helps.

no..u dont add it..its just saying the amount of calories that are there because of fat..does that make sense?..lol

yes, that is what it means. its saying that out of all the total calories this is the number or calories from fat. its not added to the total calories of the serving. calories from fat are the most "feared" calories. its the first thing to look at on the box of oreo cookies, and often makes you either buy the food or put it back but all the nutritional information should be read including ingredients. some things say "sugar" while some ingredients say "sugar, high fructose corn syrup" which is worse than sugar. carbohydrates arent bad if you get the right kinds. whole grains have good carbohydrates as done fruit and veggies. look to see how many grams of dietary fiber are included in carbs. thats important. fiber is important. protein is deff important as well. a calorie is a calorie though, and shouldnt be broken down into ONE type. you need to balance the types of calories you take in, just remember, everything in moderation. Good luck!
