How can I help my Dad lose weight?!

Question: I'm spending the summer home with my parents, and am looking for a few tips to help them out. I'm not sure how receptive he'll be to the idea, but he eats awful food and exercises almost never.

I plan on changing the food in the house, and that will start when we shop. If you don't put the food in the house, you can't be tempted by it.

Then I plan on taking daily walks, he loves being in the woods. Maybe start walking for 30min's per day and increase in pace and time from there. ...maybe I can even get him into the gym to use a treadmill, elliptical or play some bball.

Any other suggestions! What types of rewards could I offer for him excercizing with me (other than being healthy and living longer)?

Good job. You are doing the right thing. You might get a book on proper diet and leave it laying around. Taking a walk with him every day is a great idea. After you have walked for a while, he might start feeling stronger and take more interest in his health. Tell him you love him and you want him to be around for a long time. You don't want to lose him. Suggest he cut out one thing at a time - like fried stuff, or sugary stuff, or no more pop. Make healthy suggestions to replace the things he will be giving up. Crystal Light or water instead of pop. Steamed or baked meat instead of fried. Etc. Good luck.

You are on the right track. get him to eat healthy and also to do some exercise.

you cant. hes fat :D get over it.

b strong in ur prayers

What he needs first is the mental side of it.. Tell him you'll join him in a healthy eating regime. OK, you're probably healthy enough but everyone can always do better, and by dieting with him he'll be less tempted to give up.
Find some fruits he really enjoys and maybe make some smoothies for him for when he's trucking - I'm sure that'd work.

Sounds like you are doing the right thing. good for you for caring. Reward him by loving him and giving lots of hugs and kisses when he eats right. Dad's love that. It is also very good positive reinforcement.
As for being on the road, show him how to put together baggies of trail mix with ingredients he like. and buy him a nice cooler for the truck he can fill with fruits and vege snacks.
Good for you!

I admire you for wanting to help your family like this!! I would say to always keep it a "we" thing and don't make it seem like the pressure is on him. Word things using "let's" instead of "you should".. he'll be more willing to do it if you're doing it together.

I think this is a good plan. You might want to start on shorter walks at first in case 30 minutes it too much. The key is don't overwhelm him and make it about spending time together.

I would suggest a cleansing diet. I did this and lost 12 pounds and 19 inches in 9 days. I continued and lost 29 pounds in a month. I like the program since it works by giving your body nutrition through protein shakes with digestive enzymes and vitamins and then cleansing out the toxins. We get toxins in our bodies from pesticides, preservatives, water, pollution, medications, food additives etc
