Multi-Vitamin Alternative To Centrum? Are There Any Out There?!

Question: I took centrum from November 2007-March 2008. I'm anemic and I also need to build up my immune system so I need to take multi-vitamins.

Centrum has a lot of ingredients and I want to take a multi-vitamin that is more natural and healthy that has the same 22 vitamins/minerals as centrum. Is there any multi-vitamin out there that I can use?

Also, how long should I be taking multi-vitamins?

What you need to do is go to a dietian.
I don't think anyonone on the internet can recommend something that can work for you, especially since you are anemic.
A dietian can help by telling you what multi-vitamin you can use to substitute for centrum. Other than that, don't take health advice from people on the inernet. They might recommend something that could land you in the hospital.

If you don't want to see a dietian, atleast see a nutritionist.

Yes, go to this site puritanpride.com. great vitamin, etc co been in business for years, we been using for over 20 yrs, no problems, plus great prices, often buy 2, get 3 free, have vitamins same as centrum, etc. save $$$ and get the best

Just check the ingredients in the generics. I take a generic woman's multi. With a brand name, you are paying for the name.

As for how long, you need to discuss that with your doctor. No one here knows your health and condition and can't say how long you should take them for.

Walmart sells their Equate brand that is the same at half the price too! A daily multi vitamin is good to maintain health as well.
I had the experience of unintetionally "washing out" all the minerals and vitamins in my body a few years back- Drinking water to re-hydrate, but not eating all that well. My Doctor put me on a good vitamin as you mentioned, 3x's a day for two weeks, and after I was much better, and have kept up the one a day routine and have been fine. The Doctor did this because the symptoms were shakiness, like having a breakdown.

Taking vitamins won't help your anemia - you need iron for that. You should only take iron under a doctor's supervision, as it can cause gastrointestinal bleeding if you take too much. If your doctor says it's OK to take a multivitamin that contains iron, take it with water or juice - not milk. Calcium and iron compete for uptake in the body and one will lose out if you take them together.

There are several good brands of vitamins out there and your body won't know the difference between "natural" brands and Centrum, One-A-Day, or any other. Try to eat a well balanced diet, with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. It's probably not a bad idea to take a multivitamin regularly, as very few people have perfect diets.
