If you want to have a flatter tummy you will need to do cardio such as running, biking along with the situps. You can't just do situps and expect to have a flat tummy from just that. You have to burn the fat off your tummy by cardio and tone the muscles by situps.

Free weight exercises with light weights, and sit ups.

If you have access to a gym, find out your max weight for each exercise (if you don't know how to properly do something, please ask so you don't get hurt). Then try 3 sets of 15 reps at 60-70% of your max weight. Curls, bench press (try both w/ hands coming together w/ dumbells & shoulder width apart w/ bar), triceps, shoulder press, etc.

A big part of get definition is doing cardio that combines armwork (Taibo, boxing, etc).

As for belly, rent a tummy workout video & practice the techniques for each muscle group in your stomach. Start with 25 reps of each, then move to 50, you'll end up w/ at least 150-300 when you're done. Don't use weights if you're a girl, especially at first b/c you want to trim & tone (this will also give definition). Weights make you bulk up more. After doing this for 3yrs, I've gone a couple years without doing it, and have gone back & done sets of 25 each while pregnant. It works!

The main point is learning how to focus on the muscle you want to work so you work efficiently. Cardio that includes muscle toning is always a great addition or complete workout. Have fun!
