start with small goals, ie if you want to lose 10kg in 6 months, break it down (5kg in 3 months, 2.3kg in 1 month) and then the end result doesnt seem so daunting...and the slower you do it, the more permenant the result.
Set goals, dont talk about it, put it on paper and set realistic goals, that way you are more likely to achieve them.
Wit your diet, start cutting things out in stages, if you try cutting too much at once, you are more likely to fall back into old habits.
Same with excersize..but very importantly, set goals and write them down, I cant stress that enough. All the best, and once you reach your goal, its the most rewarding feeling and youll feel like a new person! Good luck!

If you want to do this, then you can do it. Think about your concerns and then start acting on them. If you want to start eating better, well, just do it. You don't have to have a PhD in nutrition to know what's healthy and what's not. If you have any habits which you feel are not healthy then break them and do other, healthier things. Lose weight? Normal healthy diet and regular exercise are the best ways. You also might want to change some things like your wardrobe or the way you fix your hair, stuff like that.

Im in the same position. It can be overwhelming. For me Ive decided to start by losing weight, b/c I know that once I do that I will feel more comfortable working on other things. Ive cut down and put some great fast songs on my ipod and spend at least a half hour a day at the gym.

I also found that meditation has helped me a lot. Its helpful to see in your mind's eye what you want you life to look like and what you are working towards. You'll get there. Good luck!

You sound like me. I'm 17, female, in my final year of HS...i've always been terribly unorganized and slack my whole life, and faced with the prospect of getting poor grades due to lack of time management, i decided to turn things around, recognize my potential, and work hard and smarter! I also wanted to lose weight...I'm 5'9, and was 98 kilos...but my height hid most of it all, so i did not look grossly obese...still. i was embarassed and sad about my weight...i changed it all in a few months. OK, i thought positive, i wrote my goals down in a notebook and i told myself i would do whatever it took to change them...
i studied so much each day, and i kept on top of all my work...i had so healthy, and walked to school...I'm now feeling better, and as a result, I'm making smarter, more informed descicions in life....you can do it too, It's ALL in positive thinking!

Funnily enough, once you start eating better and exercising you will make better decisions as your brain has less "crap" to deal with, not to mention the good chemicals that are released that give you a brighter outlook on life.
Two tips I can give you are
1. If you can afford it go to a nutritionalist...they are able to assess your lifestyle, weight, any medical issues you may have, then give you a doable diet recommendation. (this means telling you the proportions of each food group you can work with, NOT giving you a strict diet that there is no way you will stick to). Other than that there are many sites that give you great healthy meal ideas...just ensure that they dont eliminate things such as carbs or protein...your body needs a certain amount of these to function properly.
2. Excercise in a way that you enjoy..may it be walking, riding, the gym, kickboxing, rollerblading...and make sure you include some sort of bodyweight excercises within your week. When you build muscle, you burn fat faster. The old addage is if you do something for 4 weeks straight without stopping it becomes habit...so give it some time and you will start to enjoy what ever excercise you get to do, and will find you will be hanging out to do it again.
Best of luck to you, and you have already made better decisions by looking into changing your life.
I have included a couple of sites for you. I use the csiro diet and find it pretty easy to follow.
I also dont like matt furey in the slightest...he is very...erm...over the top...BUT his excercises are absolutely awesome for toning and building muscle as well as losing weight...so if you can get over the attitude I recommend it.
