Why are people so obsessed with loosing weight these days?!

Question: Its not obsession, it's reality. Given the health information available to us these days, most people are aware that if we all had the bodies of two hundred years ago, we would have less health disasters.
Many more people are overweight today. We know that as a fact. We are too well fed. Look in your food cupboard. Two hundred years ago, only a rich person would have had so much happening in there. Let's not even talk about the refrigerator and the supermarket!! Forget the stick thin mag models. They are irrelevant. No one takes them seriously anyway because we don't really want to be skinny skinny. People are obsessed because they know they are eating too much, and are in a struggle to overcome the difference between the body they want, and the body they have got just by eating what appears to be normal these days.

I think there is pressure to look good these days, and people have become more shallow, and part of looking good is being slim.

90% because it is seen as healthy to be thin, also some may have health reasons to need to lose weight, or just just want to feel better in them selfs

I think it's because of the models that television and magazine give us.

It seems like if you're not skinny you can't be really appreciate. And that's a fool thing!

But nowadays, body is more important that brain. Or so it seems.

because of the fashion industry. they want us all stick thin. its so unhealthy.

Attracting that special male of female. Being thin and toned is sexy and attractive. Many of us who are tired of being fat or feel insecure want to be more attractive. Its completely natural to want something you dont have.. especially when you increase your chances of getting some hanky panky at the next party.

I'm losing weight and gaining muscle to enter the Air Force so I'm ready for anything in basic. I also do it because I'm tired of being a fatty like I was in high school. When I look back on how people treated me and how far I come. I'll feel I've done something great. I want that feeling and I'm willing to lose weight.

Thats because they want to look good and feel good...in other words, to be healthy and fit...and it pays off...

Right now because of the realisation that summer is coming and that extra layer of winter fat doesn't look fetching in a bikini.
Nowadays because our society, unfortunately, tends to make immediate judgements based on body shape, what clothes you're wearing and so on. Very superficial but it happens.

Cause media sets bad examples to the society especially the teens and the youth.

People are now more concerned with their physical appearance (and shape) instead of their health.

Propaganda I guess . it is the norm now that people are required to be thin whereas in the last fat people were highly appreciated by society (it shows they have money and power)

Big sharks are controlling us and telling us what to wear , eat and even look. I am not a paranoid about a conspiracy theory but this is the truth if you look further behind.

I used to be overweighted (like 130 KG) now I am 77 KG but I do not feel good...... I guess it is what you are ....
