Food fuels and insulin levels during exercise? PLEASE HELP!?!

Question: The type of carbohydrate we consume prior to exercise can impact on the fuel used by the athlete. A food which significantly raises the blood glucose level, increases the secretion of insulin.

What IMPACT will the increase in insulin levels have on the TYPE of fuel used by the athlete for energy (ie, carbohydrates, fats)?

The impact on the athlete during a prolonged activity?

PLEASE HELP! i don't understand any of this.

Insulin's job is to maintain proper glucose levels. If you eat sugary (or high glycemic) carbs, your blood sugar levels skyrocket. The problem is, this hyperglycemic (to high blood sugar) state would be fatal if left unchecked,so your pancreas secretes a ton of insulin. The insulin scavenges up the glucose (and stores it as fat) and now you crash (to low of blood sugar level). You can't burn fat with high insulin levels, on the contrary it is storing fat. Eating low glycemic (trickle into the bloodstream) foods prior to exercise will give you sustained energy and will put you in fat burning mode.

Basically during ahtletic activity that stresses muscles, you should intake a drink source that simultaneously replenishes the muscle glucose you're using to do the actual exercise. This prevents you from going into a state of catabolism by refueling the muscles with glucose for use, allowing you to in turn burn fat stores instead of actual muscle during long, intense workout sessions.

Make sense?
