Does this sound like a good exercise and diet program?!

Question: Hey there, so i'm starting a diet and exercise program, i'm 14 and really unhappy with my body, i'd like to lose some weight before my birthday. (june 16th.) as a present to myself, i weight 142, i want to lose about 20-30 pounds, does this sound like a good progam?:

I'm going to eat about 5 or 6 meals a day, 3 hours apart, i'm going to drop out the junk food/candy for the most part.

And my exercise is going to be walk slim by leslie sansone http://www.lesliesansone.com/ i'll be doing that at least 5 days a week, i have horse back riding the other two days i wouldn't be doing that, my mom bought weights, so i'd be doing some just curls with those, not very many, and i plan on hula hooping/ maybe jump roping. i also have a treadmill, and i could use that i just find it amazingly boring.

i want to do this over time, and not lose all the weight at once, am i going in the right direction?

Sounds good to me. Make sure you don't completely cut out junk, maybe ease your way into it, otherwise you're liable to end up craving it and giving in. hula hoop and jump rope are awesome exercise. They have hula hoop classes some places, with heavier hula hoops to make it harder, its good for your core, and jump rope is good for legs and awesome cardio. A treadmill can be boring, is it near a tv, or at least some music? You probably don't need that too though. I would just like to know how tall you are to see how much you should loose. And you will likely gain some muscle, so it might be better to take some measurements now and just look to be loosing inches instead of weight, its more accurate.

Personally I dont believe in diets, you cant achieve long term goals on them. What I believe in is healthy changes, what you wrote though sounds like you are on the right track and sensible ;-). Interested in your height though to work out your bmi on what your ideal weight is. Go onto this site and work it out http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ or if you like go into google and type bmi calculaters- lots will come up

Goodluck
