Diet help, please!?!

Question: okay well I'm fifteen.
I weigh about 128 and am 5ft 4
This last week and up until friday i have dance every day from 9-12 and 5-8 and i would say im burning about, 500-600 calories?
Im trying to eat 1200 calories a day but im scared if i do that the weight will all come back when i start eating 2000 again.
which i dont want.
today for example i ate a 250 calorie breakfast (cereal and an a fruit cup), i had a 45 calorie hotdog after dance, no bread, and then later im going to have tuna fish and a 100 calorie pack (300 calories in all) but thats only 595 calories and for dinner ill prob eat like 300 calories. but thats still too little, my question is, well i have a couple

say i were to have peanut butter jelly or a dessert to fill in the empty calories, is that bad, must a diet be all good food, and any bad food, no matter how well you ate the rest of the day, would ruin the diet? do i have to eat healthy all the time, will one induldgence ruin it?

I will try and help, but your body is a complex thing and you should start doing some reading into proper diets (not crazes) so that you understand the reasons behind how different foods do different things for you. This information will help you for life. You are basically trying to fix a car right now without knowing how to do it at all and hoping for the best.

Here's some facts:
1. Not all calories do the same thing for you. If you eat an apple that is 100 calories or 3 servings of cheese at 100 calories or 100 calories of brocoli did you know that the apple would make you gain the most weight? Foods that are higher in sugar spike your insulin levels which trigger your body to store fat. That doesn't mean that apples are bad, but you should never eat them by themselves if you want to lose weight. The reasons behind this are more complex. Read about them in the zone diet (www.zonediet.com)

2. The more you exercise, the more you need to eat. You have it backwards right now. You should eat more now and less when you are not as active.

3. You are either gaining weight or losing weight every minute of every day. Your body never stops changing and you have control of that with all the choices you make every day.

4. "dieting" does not work. You have to find a way to figure out how to eat healthy all the time. If you don't then you will forver be going on "diets" to lose 20 lbs and then you'll gain 20 lbs back in 3 weeks and back and forth. So don't try going on a diet and then going back to what you were eating before, of course you will end up in the same boat.

5. Your diet should always be good food. Think of it this way, if you are trying to save $100 a day, and you are careful all day and only spend $5 on little things and then decide that you did really well and you should treat yourself to a $80 pair of shoes, you'd never save the money and later on you'd wonder why. That is the same as dieting, you have to keep trying all the time and not decide that the little peice of pie isn't going to hurt.

6. However, once you have gotten into really good shape, you have built up strong muscles, lost almost all of your fat, can run 10 miles no problem, do 20 push ups no problem etc. those little desserts won't matter as much if you have them because your body will burn more calories than it ever did before. The same with the money example, once you've saved up $100,000 in your bank through hard work you can spend the $80 on shoes and it doesn't make as much of a difference.

7. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn during the day. So you need to make sure you are eating enough protein and getting enough exercise to make sure you are building muscle. Again, check the zone diet, the formulas they use work for EVERYONE.

8. Losing weight takes just as long, if not longer than it does to gain it. You might have only gained quarter a pound a week for the last 2 years which would build up to 25 lbs. That is only a pound a month which is barely noticeable. But it builds up over time. Losing weight is the same thing, if you want to lose weight, you have to work at it, every day and understand that results come to everyone but they are not noticeable for months and months.

Right now, you are basically not eating enough. You for sure are not getting enough protein. You are eating junk like hot dogs, 100 calorie packs and cereal (eat oatmeal, it is way better for you). This "diet" just doesn't work and you are not getting what your body needs.

Good luck in your learning, do it for yourself because feeling fit and healthy is great.

and a diet doesn't have to be all healthy just make the junk food in moderation

I can only tell you my experience. For desserts and things we know we should avoid, eat them early in the day. You at least have a chance to get a chocolate fix early, and burn those calories. I would not dare advise on the amount of calories you eat, I would suggest a Doctor, Nutritionist or even a program like Weight Watchers, etc. For myself, I do not count calories. I eat, like you, cereal & fruit, for lunch I'll fix my own fruit smoothie, for dinner I eat what the rest of my family eats, except a smaller portion and no seconds. Good luck.

You could probably eat.. the full 2000 calories and still drop weight. Your not eating.. enough. I used to eat 1500 calories, a day and I did half an hour of excercise, a day and I lost weight.. that way. Your doing.. 6 hours of dancing, a day. You need to slow down and take things, step by step. I'm fifteen like you, sixteen this month. Your still growing.

Don't do.. that much dancing. Your burning far too many calories. I say, cut it down to about.. an hour, a day. Your only supposed to burn of 1-2 pounds, a week.

I used to get some weights and do some dancing, with them.. to some music. You can easily, do this.. with some cans or something. I did this, for half an hour and I ate 1500 calories. You might find it hard, to burn the weight. So.. if it doesn't work out, add another 10-20 minutes, to your routine and drink a lot of water.

Eat something healthy, like porridge, with some apples.. for breakfast or some fruit and a yoghurt. For dinner, think of what you'd like. Fish, chicken.. anything! I used to have a special meal, that was under 300 calories and it filled me up. For tea, have what your family are having, just make sure.. you know it isn't.. too fattening. :-)

my guess it that you are not eating enough, and your body is in starvation mode due to your excessive exercize. Also 128 is a pretty good weight for your heighth if you are a mediam build.

I have been on weightwatchers forever, and was just about your size when younger (my bad habits and stress got me fat!!)..

I would focus on whole wheat grains (there are some great high fibre cereals - remember that the more fibre the food contains the more you can eat). have at least 3/day. then low fat protein 3x/day. You need a lot of protein as you are growing and have active physically. have 1 beef, 1 fish or chicken, and then a couple plant proteins like peanut butter, nuts, and definitely have 3 glass of FAT FREE milk (hormone free). Then have all the fruit and vegies you want. be sure to have a couple spoons of olive or good oil.

Also, always buy fat-free or sugar-free products when there is a choice. Good habit to get into anyway.

Don't forget your 5-6 waters and your multiple vitamin.

I think you have been overdoing it and making it too hard on yourself - which means easing up in the right way and eating more of the right stuff should be easy for you!

Good luck!
Andrea
