How strong a diuretic is soda?!

Question: I know that Coke and other sodas are diuretic but I would like to know to what degree they have this effect. Specifically my purpose is to calculate my daily water intake, so I want to know if I drink 12oz of Coke, how much water does it contribute and how much does it make me loose?

A person who drinks caffeinated beverages frequently (five times weekly or more) experiences little to no water loss associated with the drink, therefore your only mission would be to calculate the water content of the soda you are drinking. However, if you drink one soda a week, then the water loss is roughly equivalent to the water intake -- so it would count as nothing.

caffeine is the main diuretic in soda so drink caffeine free soda. caffeine free diet coke. took me awhile to get used to the taste

Just to set the record straight drinking coke or anything with carbonation or sugar in it whatsoever is not helping you in any way to lose weight, it actually dehydrates you even more. and if you are going to drink coke, by no means should you drink diet, it has so many additives that are so bad for you such as aspartame, and other artificial sweeteners. the only way to go is to drink pure water...and I used to hate drinking water, but if you start your body will crave it, and help you lose weight. I hope this has been helpful!

Soda is not a diuretic...caffeine causes minor temporary diuretic like effect but the sodium in it more then counteracts any fluid loss.
