What do you think of the B.M.I, is it full of sh*it?!
Question: I'm 5'/7" and weight in at a well defined 170 lbs. I was just on the weather channel website checking for spring when I noticed the health section, which has a BMI calculator. i enteredin my hieght and weight and the thing told me I was overweight. Is this BMI thing responsible for some of the irrational ideas we have about our weight and appearance? How valid is this thing, anyway?

I think using weight as a measure is irrational...many people would be amazed by what the scale tells me, but I go to the gym, I work my *** off....no matter what that scale doesn't move. I think level of activity and state of health should be the appropriate indicators.
YES!!!!!
It doesn't take into consideration of how much muscle you have.
I theink body fat % is a better determination.
for people with a muscular build, yes, it is full of sh!t, but for the "average" person it is a good quick and easy sandard.
You are fat! , I'm 5'6" and weight 140 and I'm muscular and kinda ripped.
It's not accurate for many people and should only be used as a guide along with other means of measuring. A pair of body fat measuring scales will give a much better indication if there is some fat to lose. Many people have a higher proportion of muscle which cannot be accounted for in a BMI calculation.
When the BMI came out I was shocked at how low the normal weights were supposed to be. The folks above me seem knowledgeable enough but, like you, I often shake my head at what doctors think should be a person's weight.
