CAn anyone define in detail what squats and lunges are????!

Question: Here's my definition of a squat: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, toes pointed forward. Lower your rear end toward the floor as if you were going to sit in a chair (yes, your butt will be sticking out - it's supposed to!) until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Keep your eyes focused on something directly in front of you. Hold this position for a split second / several seconds, and stand back up. Do not twist your body or neck while doing this, especially if you have a barbell on your back.

There are a lot of ways to do lunges. My favorite are reverse-lunges, where you start with your feet together. Take a large step backward with one foot, plant it on the ground, and lower yourself straight down until your front thigh is parallel to the floor. Hold this position for a split second / several seconds (however long you choose), stand up and bring your back foot up next to your front one where it started.

Hope that helps!

Squates are where you lower your body down and lunges are where you take long, exageratted steps. They are used to stretch and strengthen leg muscles.

Squats:
Spread your legs apart
Lower your body straight down while keeping your feet in place
Stop when you feel the tension in your legs
Go straight up
Repeat

Lunges:
Take a big step with your dominant foot
Land so that your knee forms a right angle and you other leg is stretched out straight
Hold for a second or two
Repeat

Squats and lunges are done standing up. When doing squats you pretend as if you are sitting in a chair by raising and lowering your rear. A lunge either forward or backward is like taking a big step forward (or backward) and then lowering your torso in a straight line down till your thigh is parallel to the floor then slowly going back to your start position. The slower they are done the better workout you will get.
