Is it healthy to lose 20 pounds in one month?!


Question: Is it healthy to lose 20 pounds in one month? I don't mean losing it by taking pills, being bulimic, not eating, or anything unhealthy. I just mean, exercising and eating healthy and losing 20 pounds....is it healthy to lose that much weight in one month? Is 20 pounds too much or does that sound about right? I'm 5'3 and 200 pounds, so I am obese. Thanks.

Forget that it's not healthy, I don't even think that's possible. Maybe if you weighed 400 lbs.! Your body needs a minimum of 1200 calories a day just to breathe, poop, etc. If you don't eat that much it will hang onto fat. Stay with 1200 calories a day, 1400 if you exercise, and you'll probably lose 2-3 lbs. a week at first, then it will slow down to 1-2 lbs. a week. So 10 lbs. this first month is probably doable.

it's recommended that you lose 10 pounds a month but i know people and have heard of people that lost 20 pounds without being unhealthy. in my opinion it's possible and not unhealthy as long as, like you said, you're not anorexic or bullimic

not at all healthy.. max speed is about 2 pounds a week.
otherwise you are damaging your body.. if you loose weight too fast, you will loose muscle strenght, which may even give you a heart attack..

just stick to 2 pounds a week max, sweetheart..
