if the pants are fitting better, you have definitely lost inches, there is no doubt about that. you don't miraculously fit better into jeans if you get bigger or if you don't get any smaller. you need to buy a soft tape measurer and measure all of your body and keep track of your weight loss in inches rather than in pounds, i have lost thirty four pounds in 3 and a half months but i have dropped pants sizes going from a 20 to a loose 16, almost 14. that is how i am judging my weight loss. i feel much better about my "weight loss"" this way because i don't have to constantly pay attention to numbers that don't always drop due to muscle being built from working out regularly now. i think your 20 lb weight loss goal might better be suited as a size 4 jeans goal,Noha!!!LOL!!

EDIT: and no you aren't stupid, just overly worried. don't sweat it. you are making progress!!

i bet that it is just muscle weight

muscle weighs more than fat

The weight scale is the killer of all people who want to lose weight. The electronic ones are the worst.

Go by pant size or belt loops. If your clothes feel looser, it's an indication of weight loss.

looking at your weight isnt always going to give you the answer you want. it doesent tell u the bodyfat % and the % of muscle you have and so on. you may have gone down in bodyfat % and gone up in muscle %. if you see yourself getting skinnyer, you dont need scales.
oh and, a person can acctualy vary a couple of pounds throughout the day due to water weight. i can acctualy go up 2-3 lbs in a day if i drink plenty

u ve gain muscle or probally tighten areas that needed it u need to probally do water pills

Try the book "You On A Diet"- they explain this nicely.

'Weight loss' is a stupid goal, better health is a good goal. The thing is- muscle weighs more than fat, so as you get more toned, you often weigh more. Most measured weight-loss is short-term water weight loss.

The better plan is to actually measure how much of the bad 'belly fat' is going away by taking your waist measurement.- like how your pants fit!

Also take your blood pressure, etc. which tells us about your metabolic health.

Weighing the same can be depressing but if the pants fit better that means you're toning. Muscle weighs more than fat so if you're burning fat and gaining muscle you could actually end up weighing more (depressing I know). But as hard as it is you really can't let that bother you because at least you look better and in the end that's all that really matters. Just keep up the good work. I don't know how much smaller you're planning on getting (a 4 would be a good size) but just keep in mind that people aren't gonna know or be judging you on how much you weigh. They're gonna be looking at the actual size and tone of your body and looking good is really what you're working for isn't it? Just keep up the good work and try not to weigh yourself, as tempting as it can be:-)

Don't feel bad. The results are going to show. But it will take time. I went though the same thing few times. Even though your weight has not change but your muscle and fat ratio already did. That is why your pants are fitting better. You can already see the body shape changes.

The problem with most diet/exercise program is that it takes time and strong will to work. In most people's case, you actually will gain slight weight before you start to lose weight. Initially, your body will gain more muscles. Muscles weigh more than the fats. You can end up getting more weight initially. That period can last anywhere between few weeks to couple months depending on the intensity of the exercise and amount of calorie intake. But as your body gain muscle, those extra muscle will start to burn more calories throughout the day, even when you are not exercising.

At this point, you probably wonder the extra muscle is nice, but what about the extra weight from all those new muscles. If you continue your workout, but concentrate on cardio and light weight training, you will stop gaining extra muscles at some point. (instead of bulking up, focus on toning your muscle). Then your body will start to burn all the extra fat. You will end up looking fitter and leaner. If you continue after that, you will lose more weight. Sometimes, you can even stop for few weeks and your body weight won't change.

Of course, keep a good diet during this time is important as well. Don't go on an super exercise and extra low calorie diet. Your body will rebound once you start eating again. Keep the calorie intake fairly the same (assuming you are not taking too much calories in right now). Generally, if you exercise moderately (1 hr per day), you can eat up to 2,000 calories without gaining any weight.

Oh, I am starting to lose weight too. I started 2 months ago and nothing happened until last week. I finally start to lose weight. (Only 5 lbs so far, but I have lost 1 inch in the waist size). I look better and I feel like I am going to lose more in the coming weeks.

Good Luck.

Sounds like you have lost fat and gained muscle. That's very good. Don't be depressed. You are doing great! One way to check if you are losing fat or not is to measure your waist every morning when you get up. If it stays the same you need to alter your diet. If it is going down gradually that's good, if you need to lose fat. You definitely don't want your waist to get bigger. Keep up the good work honey. xoxo

Dont feel unmotivated. Your doing a super job. And dont go by just the scale go by your body. if you feel thinner and your pants show that you are, then guss what... you are! Congrats and keep up the fantastic work! : )
