How can I change my attitude towards food?!


Question: I hate food, I really don't want to eat it .. but when I'm alone I binge on rubbish like chocolate. It's left me with a really weird attitude to food, and I don't know if I'm overweight or underweight. Well I 'know' I'm too fat but my parents and friends will tell me I'm too thin (I never bring it up btw). At lunch times I'd rather not eat cos my friends are there, and I feel fat eating in front of friends.

At a school trip recently the teacher tried to make me eat the lunch provided but I panicked because there were so many people around.. and just had some water.

I make sure to eat healthy foods, but I feel really unhealthy. My hip bone shoots out, my stomach sticks out far and I've got really bad bags under my eyes. I'm also prone to stress, fatigue and depression.

Oh, if it helps I'm 15, male, in the USA, and weigh between 8 stone 10 and 9 stone (122-126lb) and exercise a lot (walks around the district, crunches). I haven't weighed myself today because I'm feeling really bad.

I'm no psychologist by any means, but it sounds to me that you have an eating disorder. You might not want to hear that because you've probably been hearing that from everyone around you, but let me tell you you're not weird ok!

I used to struggle with food all the time, I'd feel disgusting if I ate, and was always scared if people were thinking I was too fat (I still do sometimes).

It sounds like your a binge eater (you may have heard this term from to "binge and purge") only your not purging, your anorexic (fear of food/getting fat) and binging. So you avoid food all together then binge when your body is like "enough is enough give me calories NOW"

This is extremely unhealthy behaviour, as you should be able to enjoy life, especially at your age. The first step is admitting you have a problem, which you
