Not taking protein powder when weight-lifting?!

Question: Is it bad if I don't take protein shakes/powder or anything protein bars when weight lifting? I've never taken them and I don't intend to. I eat fish, chicken, and other meat, and also skim milk, is that enough? I eat about 60 grams of protein daily or a little more. I have you need to take at least 1 x weight =grams of protein daily, but it's impossible for me to take that much as I do not have enough money to buy whey protein. Will it affect me if I don't take any type of protein other than food? I have been working out for a while but my muscles seem to not be getting harder, and I don't seem to be getting stronger. I workout every other day.
Thanks

Fish, chicken breast, salmon, cottage cheese,EGG WHITES,milk, yogurt are all excellent sources of protein. You need more then 60 grams of protein daily if your lifting and whey protein makes it easier because 1 scoop is 25 grams.I use six star whey protein from Walmart because its only 18 bucks and I have seen excellent results, but as with anything good it takes time and dedication.

It's not 1 x weight it's more like 1 x lean body mass. Try going for .8 x your weight. It's not really that hard. Lots of eggs in the morning then fish, beef, and chicken throughout the day. Whey only has 24 grams of protein anyways. But it is good to take whey within 30 minutes after lifting. Wal-mart sells whey protein pretty cheap. Get it from there. BJ's, Costco, and Sams even have whey protein. 60 grams is pretty low and will hinder muscle growth. Eat more. Make sure you drink lots of water because high protein intake is not really that good for your kidney but you'll be fine if you drink lots of water.
