First time at the gym?!

Question: I started going to the gym last week, i've had 2 sessions. On the last session i went on everything, for about an hour in total. I did 100 rows on the rowing machine. & friday night and saturday, my muscles were extremely sore.
How much would you recommend doing first? Like how many rows? How long on each thing?
Thanks

You should set yourself a certain amount of time on each one. Start off with 5 minutes on the rowing machine and gradually build up your time. It can help keeping a diary of this. Do the same on each machine, set yourself a time. Remember to always warm up before exercising, do stretches and light exercise first and do the same afterwards, this will stop you hurting as much, you have to warm up your muscles.

An hour is fine at the moment, just make sure that u don't strain ure muscles
And ure gunna ache after an hour at the gym, don't worry bout it, after a while your body Will adjust. Also take a bath when u get home to relax your muscles.

Wow! I think you did a little too much for one day. When I go to the gym, I usually do 25 rows, run on a treadmill for 1.5 miles, lift some weights, and sometimes do some other cardiovascular stuff.

Hope this helps!

There's not much you can do about the muscle aches. They will go away in a few weeks. Just never work your same body parts twice in a week. I am sure a trainer can help you with that. But break your body into sections, not literally of course. And build a schedule to rotate your body part workouts. Like back, arms, torso, legs, that sort. You can do mild cardio on the same body part a few days leter but never use a resistance training 2x in the same week.

ask the gym instructor(especially if he`s hunky!!) or the girl to set a programme for you, based on your present fitness, and weight, and to give you a realistic target, with regular reviews of your progress. What are you goingto the gym for?? toning up?? or building muscle?? general fitness and stamina increase??

You expect to ache a fair bit once you have started a new routine. I have been training for years and still ache if I try something new, it's just the muscle repairing itself.

Just make sure that you stretch well before you start your training, warm up and warm down on each machine.

Try 5 minutes on each machine for the first few times, as you get used to it (and fitter) you can build up to 8 minutes then 10 minutes etc.

Also I noticed someone said to get a hot bath after a workout to relax and stop yourself aching, this can have the opposite effect as it makes the rips in the muscles (caused by training) to bleed out. Professional rugby players have ice baths as this drives the lactic acid out of your muscles, though I doubt you'll be in a rush to jump into a cold bath, I tried it once, never again, I'd sooner just put up with the aching!
